Great Vacation Destinations Where You Can Teach Kids About History

It’s always fun to go on family vacations because this is the one time of year you actually get to enjoy the kids without a myriad of interruptions. The job isn’t calling you in for an ‘emergency meeting’ and the kids aren’t hanging out with their friends. You are away from home and the only distractions might be those mobile devices, but if you plan wisely, even those don’t have to be a distraction.

This year, why not plan a family vacation where you can show the kids a bit of history. Make it a learning and fun experience, all at the same time. However, if you don’t want them to rebel, don’t tell them you are trying to teach them something or they’ll hate it even before you leave home! When going abroad with your family, teaching your children about history is essential, this educational travel company can help you do just this. Places such as Rome, Paris and Madrid would be perfect examples of great holiday destinations.

Philadelphia, Pennsylvania

No serious student of history should ever go through life without a trip to Philadelphia, Pennsylvania. Whether you are a history grad student at Norwich University or are simply interested in American history, you’ll love showing your kids where both the Declaration of Independence and the US Constitution were signed. There are a number of monuments throughout the city that provide a perfect backdrop for family selfies. It’s one city you won’t soon forget.

San Antonio, Texas

Remember the Alamo!” Who hasn’t heard that famous cry dating back to the early 1800s when Texas was battling for independence from Mexico. Not only did the United States battle for independence from England, but history has it that our forefathers fought for freedom from other nations as well. Wars are won, and wars are lost, but gladly for Texans, this was a victory. Take your kids on a tour of the Alamo and, who knows, you might even want to do your Norwich University Master in History thesis on this period in American History.

Boston, Massachusetts

There is much to see and do in Boston besides that of a historical nature. However, during the ‘learning’ part of your vacation, why not walk the cobblestone Freedom Trail where Paul Revere rode to warn of the impending British invasion. If you have baseball fans in the family, go to a game at Fenway Park, which has a rich history as well. Wouldn’t you like to see, maybe for the first time ever, the ships made famous during the Boston Tea Party?

Yellowstone National Park, Wyoming

At this point, you may be asking, “What’s so historic about Yellowstone National Park?” While there is the world-famous Old Faithful geyser the kids will thrill at the amazing campgrounds in the area, it is also of a historic nature because Yellowstone was the first officially designated National Park way back in March 1872, and commissioned as such by President Ulysses S. Grant. There are deer, elk, buffalo, and even grizzlies, which can be spotted roaming freely. If you are looking for quality family time away from all the noise and confusion of 21st Century America, this is the historic vacation of a lifetime.

Why not spend an educational vacation with the kids? It sure beats sitting in class learning things they may never truly appreciate unless they’ve seen them.
