How to Make Your Bedroom Cozier

Reviews · May 24, 2018

When your bedroom or bed isn’t that inviting, you’re far less likely to want to get to bed at a reasonable hour. You stay up later but still must rise at the same time to get ready for work on the weekdays. You end up fighting against yourself in this way.

It’s much better to create a pleasant bedroom environment that suits you and any partner you may have in life. It’s easier to relax before going to sleep for sure.

Here are a few ideas for you.

Comfy Mattress and Pillow?

If you find that your mattress is too old and you’re dodging the springs poking through, then it’s long since time for a change. You can enjoy NASA-inspired memory foam to experience floating on air – or at least the feeling of such. Latex foam for people not allergic provides a bouncier floating feeling if that’s preferable. Obviously, a water bed is a possibility but it’s a bit difficult to manage and maintain one. And the old standby, the innerspring mattress is always a good option if you need greater back support or are allergic to foam fillings. Don’t forget pillow top mattresses with a soft top layer to ease you in.

Pillows also need to suit your sleeping position too. Some are angular, others let you sink deep into them and there are also ones that focus on neck support too. Check out bedowl.com for product information if you’re thinking of buying a replacement bed or pillow soon.

Softer, More Controllable Lighting

It pays to think about the lighting in the bedroom. Certainly, you want to have dimmer switches fitted so you can adjust the illumination level. Side table lamps are useful too. The light bulbs can be eco-friendly ones and there are smart ones that you can control from your smartphone without having to get out of bed to adjust the illumination level.

You may want to think about a reading light if you enjoy reading in bed. Also, consider the color of the lighting as all-white lighting in the bedroom can wear on tired eyes and be an unnecessary shock to the system in the morning too.

Seating Area

Some people enjoy having a seating area inside the bedroom. This is useful when sharing the bed with a partner and wanting to get up but not disturb them. It’s possible to relax there, read a book or take little naps without getting into a deep slumber lying in the bed.

Flooring

The flooring is a consideration for each person. Do you prefer carpeting, wooden flooring or rugs? It’s certainly pleasant to wake up, climb out of bed and put your feet on a sheepskin rug. Cold wooden floors are not always ideal, especially when coming out of the shower to the bedroom. If the flooring doesn’t make the bedroom feel cozy, it may be time for a change.

Ultimately, whatever will make the bedroom feel cozier is worth updating. It doesn’t take much to make some adjustments to enhance your enjoyment when spending time in the bedroom. Also, if you have one, don’t forget to ask your partner for suggestions as they’ll probably have some cool ideas too.

Things to Consider When Buying a Rug

Reviews · December 3, 2017

You might be in the process of decorating your new home. If this is the case, some rugs might be on your shopping list. These are not items that you should buy quickly without giving it a lot of thought. There are a number of things that you need to take into consideration before you make a rug purchase. The extra time that you spend shopping for your rugs will pay off in the long run. You will be able to get beautiful rugs that you will be able to enjoy for many years to come. Here is what you need to know to be a smart shopper when it comes to buying rugs.

1. Think about the size of the room that the rug will be placed in.

You should start off by taking the measurements of the particular room that you are in the process of decorating. How much of the floor do you want to be covered by the rug? Where do you want the rug to be positioned in the room? The total dimensions of the room might not matter if some of the space is already filled by other objects. Therefore, you need to measure the area where the rug will be laid. Then you will be able to avoid buying a rug that is too big for the space that you have available.

2. What type of design do you want the rugs to have on it?

The style of the rug that you decide to buy will usually have a lot to do with the overall decorative scheme of the room that you will place it in. You might want to consider looking at some southwestern style rugs if that design will compliment the rest of the room. Roth Rugs has an impressive inventory that includes many of the most popular styles.

3. What type of material do you want the rug to be made out of?

Ideally, you want the rug that you buy to last for many years. You need to buy a very strong and durable rug if you plan on placing it in a part of your home that has a high level of foot traffic. Therefore, you must pay very close attention to the materials that were used to make the rug. Buy something that can tolerate being walked on regularly.

How to Create the Illusion of Privacy When You Live in an Apartment Building

Reviews · November 10, 2017

Urban living requires that we live in close proximity to our neighbors. Apartments are innovative solutions to urban overpopulation, allowing everyone to have a comfortable home to live and work in, but the closeness of neighbors means that you can often hear movement, talking, and life through your walls. You don’t have to suffer under the din, instead, you can use these methods to soundproof your apartment and give you the illusion of privacy.

  1. Buy Rugs

Rugs can easily and cheaply soundproof your home. Not only that, but they can also help muffle your own movements, so you don’t have to be quite as paranoid about annoying your neighbors every time you move your chair too loudly. The thicker the rugs you choose, the better. They can also make your apartment much warmer, so you can save on your utilities bill as well.

  1. Wall Hangings

Depending on what you’re doing in your apartment, you can benefit either from hanging tapestries, or even installing a few soundproof panels. It depends entirely on your budget. While this won’t sound proof your home, it will help absorb the sound, so at the very least the noise doesn’t bounce around your room. Bookshelves also apply to this, and you can increase the amount of noise blocking by adding a piece of foam behind your shelves.

  1. Increase the Soft Surfaces

Sound is absorbed by soft surfaces such as textiles and fabrics, so reduce the amount of echo by increasing the number of soft surfaces you have in your flat. This can be done by getting tablecloths, couches, or cushioned chairs. What you can do depends on the size of your space, but aim for comfort and you’ll also cut down the noise.

  1. Windows

A lot of noise comes in through your windows, so buying thick curtains can help you cut out the noise (especially at night). As a bonus, this is another great method to keeping your home insulated and warm, so you can stay comfortable in the middle of winter without having the heating constantly on.

  1. Hide the Noise

When you need absolute silence, however, you need to invest in some earplugs. They are the only way to truly cut out most the noise in your apartment. If you want to listen to music without outside interference, however, choose one of the best noise cancelling headphones under 100. Similarly, if you don’t want something around or in your ears to drown out the noise, you can instead try a white noise machine. Getting all three will ensure that you have the quiet you need, whatever you’re doing.

You won’t be able to escape all noise in your apartment – that’s just the way that apartment living is. You will, however, be able to reduce echo and even be able to drown out noises so that you can live with the illusion of absolute privacy. If all else fails, you’ll have to contact your landlord to discuss with your loud neighbors what they can do to keep their own noise levels down.
