Rekindle the Spark With Your Home

Rekindle the Spark With Your Home
When you bought your home, it was the perfect one. Now though, when you compare it to the pictures in the magazines and on the television shows, your home may no longer feel so exciting. Don’t reach for the real estate adds just yet. Maybe all you and your home need is a sharp, new paint job in adventurous colors, or a little remodeling project from a company like Accurate Contractor Services.

Adventurous Painting
Keep in mind a few general principals when choosing your colors and designs. Light colors, and cool colors like violets, blues, and greens, appear to recede from the eye. Consequently, they make rooms and objects appear larger. Dark colors, and warm colors like reds, oranges, and yellows, appear to advance. They make rooms and objects look smaller.

Psychologically, cool colors tend to be soothing and cause people to relax. Energetic warm colors encourage activity and interaction. Diagonal lines also encourage activity while curved lines calm and sooth. Horizontal stripes or horizontal rectangles make narrow walls appear longer, while vertical stripes or rectangles make a long wall appear shorter. Vertical designs also make a low ceiling feel higher. Painting stripes on a floor can make an entire room look wider.

Placing painter’s tape around the edge of your design before painting keeps edges sharp. Use poster paper to create templates for various shapes, and then carefully measure to make sure it is where you want it on the wall before lightly marking it’s position or taping around it.

Create the trompe l’oeil illusion of molded panels by framing a smaller rectangle of a darker color with one or two progressively lighter colors. The colors you use don’t actually have to be dark or light. The framing colors just need to be lighter than the center color.

Remodeling Projects
Remodeling projects do not necessarily have to be major projects. You can give your kitchen a fresh style by changing or painting the doors on the cabinets, changing the splashback, or even by changing the door handles. You can change the look and style of other rooms by changing the globe on the ceiling fixture or by exchanging a ceiling light for a fan or a chandelier. Even changing the look of your bathroom is relatively quick and inexpensive with a bathtub liner.

Try these ideas to rekindle the spark with your home.
