How to Make Your Bedroom Cozier

Reviews · May 28, 2018

When your bedroom or bed isn’t that inviting, you’re far less likely to want to get to bed at a reasonable hour. You stay up later but still must rise at the same time to get ready for work on the weekdays. You end up fighting against yourself in this way.

It’s much better to create a pleasant bedroom environment that suits you and any partner you may have in life. It’s easier to relax before going to sleep for sure.

Here are a few ideas for you.

Comfy Mattress and Pillow?

If you find that your mattress is too old and you’re dodging the springs poking through, then it’s long since time for a change. You can enjoy NASA-inspired memory foam to experience floating on air – or at least the feeling of such. Latex foam for people not allergic provides a bouncier floating feeling if that’s preferable. Obviously, a water bed is a possibility but it’s a bit difficult to manage and maintain one. And the old standby, the innerspring mattress is always a good option if you need greater back support or are allergic to foam fillings. Don’t forget pillow top mattresses with a soft top layer to ease you in.

Pillows also need to suit your sleeping position too. Some are angular, others let you sink deep into them and there are also ones that focus on neck support too. Check out bedowl.com for product information if you’re thinking of buying a replacement bed or pillow soon.

Softer, More Controllable Lighting

It pays to think about the lighting in the bedroom. Certainly, you want to have dimmer switches fitted so you can adjust the illumination level. Side table lamps are useful too. The light bulbs can be eco-friendly ones and there are smart ones that you can control from your smartphone without having to get out of bed to adjust the illumination level.

You may want to think about a reading light if you enjoy reading in bed. Also, consider the color of the lighting as all-white lighting in the bedroom can wear on tired eyes and be an unnecessary shock to the system in the morning too.

Seating Area

Some people enjoy having a seating area inside the bedroom. This is useful when sharing the bed with a partner and wanting to get up but not disturb them. It’s possible to relax there, read a book or take little naps without getting into a deep slumber lying in the bed.

Flooring

The flooring is a consideration for each person. Do you prefer carpeting, wooden flooring or rugs? It’s certainly pleasant to wake up, climb out of bed and put your feet on a sheepskin rug. Cold wooden floors are not always ideal, especially when coming out of the shower to the bedroom. If the flooring doesn’t make the bedroom feel cozy, it may be time for a change.

Ultimately, whatever will make the bedroom feel cozier is worth updating. It doesn’t take much to make some adjustments to enhance your enjoyment when spending time in the bedroom. Also, if you have one, don’t forget to ask your partner for suggestions as they’ll probably have some cool ideas too.

Everything You Need to Create a Cosy Reading Nook

Reviews · October 26, 2017

Nowadays our lives are so busy and stressful, we find ourselves constantly on the go, always under pressure and never getting a second to relax. We check our phones first thing in the morning, and we’re still checking notifications as we get in bed that night. Our lives never stop. This kind of constant stress and pressure can lead to physical and mental health problems, stress, anxiety and a feeling of never being good enough. This means that it’s more important than ever that we take a little time out for ourselves when we get chance.

Adding a reading nook to your home can give your tranquil and calming place to relax, unwind and forget about your problems for a while. This can help you to sleep better, put things into perspective and help you avoid burn-out. Here’s a look at everything that you need to create your cosy reading nook.

Space

The first thing to consider is where you want to build your reading nook. All you need is an unused corner of your home. It could be in your bedroom or dining room, away from the hustle and bustle of the kitchen or lounge. Just make sure it’s somewhere you can relax and be comfortable.

Shelving

Your reading nook will need some shelving to keep all of your books. If you are short on space, either opt for some clever storage ideas or just include some of your favourites. However, if possible, surrounding yourself with books can be a fantastic way to unwind and encourage a relaxing atmosphere.

Books

If there is one thing that your reading nook needs above all else, it’s books! Use this as an excuse to go shopping. Search for some classics and special editions to perfect your collection.

Comfort

Your reading nook needs to be comfortable. Check out Warm Rooms for some radiators to fit your space, add plenty of soft furnishings to create a comfortable atmosphere and then consider seating. Think about the area that you’re working with. Do you have room for a small sofa or comfy chair? If so, go for it. Test some out to make sure they feel just right. If you are working with a smaller area, look at window seats and beanbags.

Lighting

Your reading nook needs lighting. Especially if you are using a partition of some kind to separate it from the rest of the room. Look for bright standing lamps which offer focused ambient lighting so that you can read late into the night.

A Table

You’ll need a table, so you’ve got somewhere for a hot drink or a glass of wine. You could even use it as somewhere to put your feet up or make some notes. It doesn’t need to be large; a small side table would do. You could even upcycle your own to add a touch of personality.

Finishing Touches

To add some of your style to your reading nook, bring in some influences from the rest of your home. Add artwork, photos, a curtain, candles and anything else that helps you to relax.

A reading nook can add a valuable space which can enrich your life and increase your enjoyment of your home massively.

How to Make a Room Seem Bigger

Reviews · September 15, 2017

Modern homes are great in some ways. They are generally better insulated, but, on the other hand, the rooms are often smaller. If you want to learn how to make your rooms seem bigger, please read on. Below are several simple and relatively easy ways to achieve the look you are after.

Create the right type of focal point

When you enter a room, without realising it your eye is naturally drawn to a focal point. You can use this natural reaction to your advantage. Try to create your focal point so that it draws the eye along the room or to its furthest point. This has the effect of making the space seem as big as possible.

It could be as simple as hanging a large canvas print on the appropriate wall then up-lighting it, so it catches the eye. You can easily buy the kind of high-quality picture you need for this task from the Hello Canvas website. The fact that you can potentially choose any image means that this is an approach that can be used in virtually any home.

Use mirrors

Another simple approach is to hang more mirrors in your room. Potentially, you could turn a mirror into your focal point. If you can hang it so that it reflects the room beyond it will also make the room seem far bigger. Even if you are not able to hang it in this way, do not instantly dismiss the idea of using mirrors in your home. They are a great way of capturing the natural light and reflecting it back into the room.

Let more light in

Generally speaking, the brighter a space is the bigger it will seem. As well as using mirrors be sure to open your curtains as widely as possible. Also, consider installing internal doors with glass panels, so that light can flow more easily through your house.

Draw the eye outside

If you have a garden try to set things up so that you can see it while you are in your house. This has the effect of drawing the eye outside, which automatically makes the room you are entering, or sitting in, seem larger. Ideally, you should install French or patio doors, but if you cannot do this just make sure that you make the most of the windows you have.

Change your window coverings

Try to choose window coverings that do not drape over the actual glass too much. The more of the view you show the better. Plus, of course, by taking this approach you will be naturally letting more light into your home.

Improve the lighting

The way you light a room also has a big impact. If the space is dark and dingy it will naturally feel small and pokey. You can learn more about how to use lighting in your home to improve the look and feel of it as well as create the illusion of space, you can do so here.
