With the weather on the turn, now is the time to think about swapping out your wardrobe. Most stores are starting to get their Autumn/Winter ranges in and some interesting trends are already starting to emerge.
Knitwear is king
Without a doubt, sales of women’s knitwear will soar, this year. This is largely due to the innovative new designs that are going to be available.
The coatigan is just one example of this. This great looking garment is basically a cross between a coat and a cardigan. It is warm, practical and extremely versatile. You can expect to see people wearing them as an alternative to a coat for nights out, as well as for trips to the park with the kids.
Long and baggy tops
This year, the majority of tops are long and roomy. This look fits in nicely with the 90s style jeans, trousers and skirts that are currently so popular. Most tops, jumpers and sweatshirts will be mid-thigh length or longer.
Jean and trouser trends
From the looks of things, the skinny jean trend is well and truly over. They are being replaced by far baggier tapered style jeans. Skin tight jeans are still available, but the majority of them are the distressed type.
Trousers are getting baggier too. For men, chinos are very on trend, but most women’s retailers have decided to stock trousers made out of lighter fabrics.
Leisure suits
The jumpsuit trend is giving way to the leisure suit. We are finally starting to see baggier two-piece athleisure style clothing making its way into the shops. The fact they are on trend, as well as comfortable to wear, is sure to mean that they will sell well.
Outerwear trends
When it comes to outerwear, coats are set to be more popular than jackets this year. Again, the lengths are going to be on the long side. So, expect to mainly see knee length and mid-calf coats in the shops.
The return of the trench coat
The iconic trench coat is set to make a big comeback. However, it is the blue rather than the beige ones that are likely to sell the fastest this time around.
Footwear trends
Most footwear designers have gone back in time to the 90s. So you can expect to see the return of court shoes, ankle boots, loafers and pumps.
Shiny shoes and boots
For parties and nights out, Discoball boots are the biggest trend. They really are the shiniest thing you have ever seen, but they are fun and look stunning.
There are also a lot of shiny shoes available. Patent leather is well and truly back in vogue, but it is shimmering gold and silver shoes that are set to sell the most. These are actually more versatile than you might think. Naturally, they look good when paired with a dress made from a shiny fabric. However, they also work well when worn with jeans or a pair of dark trousers.
If you do decide to buy a pair of patent leather shoes, take the time to read this article. The finish on these shoes is very different, so it is important that you know how to clean them properly.
