What to buy in The Netherlands

Reviews ·

Some people say the Netherlands is one place that is a must-visit in a lifetime. While that may not be totally true for everyone, the Netherlands has so much to offer, it is such a compelling option to include the list of anticipated vacation destinations. From the beaches surrounding the Dutch coast, to the museum filled with the rich cultural heritage of the Dutch, as well as the laid-back welcoming nature of its people; the Netherlands has an assembly of novel experiences on offer.

If you are not too sure of the treats the Netherlands proffers, you could consider the opportunity to visit the sprawling architecture in Amsterdam or Rotterdam; the van Gogh museum which houses the art of famous painter, Vincent Van Gogh; having a taste of judiciary, by visiting The Hague, home to the International Criminal Court, as well as other international courts and the seat of government in the country, and Efteling – dreamlike theme park containing fairytale creatures like elves and dwarves; not only is the Netherlands an appealing place to go to, you probably wouldn’t be able to have your fill in one visit.

If you have an avid traveler cum shopper, you wouldn’t want to go visit this beautiful country, without contemplating what you would bring back as a souvenir. In this guide, we would provide you some suggestions you could consider which would help to relive your visit to the Netherlands.

  1. Dutch porcelain

Fondly known as Delftware, the Dutch porcelains comes in varying sizes, brands and colors. You can purchase the porcelain in the shapes of mugs, plates, vases, bottles etc. The different colors available include plain white, white mixed with blue, other deepened colors etc., and as well you would be able to sample some that are inspired by Chinese porcelain.

  1. Dutch Clogs

If you are hoping to stand out while taking a walk with the dog, and you want the origin of the distinction quickly identified, then you should look no further than the Dutch clogs. Having a lengthy background, the clogs have been a part of the Dutch heritage for more than 500 years. Also known as wooden shoes, the clogs were used in the earlier times by the those involved in menial labor – fishermen, farmers, housekeepers, etc., and in some cases, are still in use today.

However, modern day clogs are much more beautifully carved and made in unique designs – which denote the signature of the makers, and are also created with those who visit the Netherlands for tourism, in mind. You can identify the clogs by the clicking sound they make on impact with concrete.

  1. The Van Gogh Museum

What would a visit to the Netherlands look like without a visit to the Van Gogh Museum? As described earlier, the Van Gogh Museum hosts art and memoirs of famous painter, Vincent Van Gogh. So if you are impressionably into the arts, you would want to visit the museum. While taking a tour, you could purchase items like custom prints of his artwork, jewelries with inspirational quotes written on them, wallpapers, postcards, canvases and other items wistfully linked to the painter.

You can also place orders at the online shop, and have these delivered to your place of choice.

  1. Chocolate, Cheese, Cookies and all in between

If your roulette strategy is going down the diner, then you would want to sample some of the delicacies the Dutch has to offer. From chocolate to cheese to cookies, the Dutch make one of the finest with distinct flavors, harvested from different farms and refined in different locations. If you are vacationing in Amsterdam, you can visit places like the Amsterdam Cheese Company, Henri Willig Cheese Store for products from Henri Willig cheese dairies, or the specialty retail chocolate shop, Chocolatl for fine chocolate.

  1. Souvenirs depicting the Dutch windmill

The windmill is intricately linked with the heritage of the people. Most of the lands available in the Netherlands are those beneath the sea level, or acquired from former lakes. The windmills, some which have been standing for more than 500 years, were used to provide some form of drainage system to the land in order to keep it dry and habitable. As time went by, there were other purposes found for the windmills, most tied to industrial objectives. Lots of the windmills were used to enable the timber and paper industry, and used to generate electricity.

The image of the windmills are used in different designs. You can purchase miniature windmill for decorative purposes, keychains or keyrings attached to little windmills, china porcelain designed with windmill drawings, art with beautiful drawings of windmills on them; there are an extensive range to select from.

  1. Refrigerator Magnets

If you are an history enthusiast, you would know that the Dutch are famous for their production and importation of beer. From Heineken to Grolsch, and Bavaria, you would have an assortment from different brands to take your pick.

Knowing that some visitors, especially the kids, would not be into beers, we would not go into that.

What better way to bring up the visit to the Netherlands, than having refrigerator magnets help provide reminders on your fridge? The magnets come in different sizes, shapes and colors, and provide an attractive distraction on refrigerators. You can have your reminders written on them, or use them to stick these up on the fridge.

I hope with the above information I have been able to instill your interest and desire to visit the Netherlands. If you do visit, you might find that going to the Netherlands shouldn’t be just a once in a lifetime experience.

Choosing A Retirement Home For Your Parent

Reviews ·

Putting your elderly parent in a retirement home is a process that’s sure to leave you feeling a little guilty. However, it is often a necessary decision, especially when your mom or dad no longer has the ability to take care of themselves.

If you are going to take this action, though, it’s vital that you find the right place for your cherished parent to spend their retirement years. A number of elements must be carefully considered before finding the best destination. Pay close attention to each of the items below, and you won’t go far wrong.

Source:

Location

The geographic location of the retirement is vital for many reasons. If your parent still has some independence, the local amenities and social opportunities can be crucial. After all, they can influence their happiness and mental stimulation.

Furthermore, you don’t want the venue to be too far away from yourself and other family members. After all, those regular visits will become the highlight of your parent’s week. Skype calls and technology may provide a good backup, but there’s no substitute for those magical face-to-face interactions.

It may be worth considering the climate and researching how accommodating the area is to people with limited movement. A little knowledge goes a long way as you try to locate a place the will leave your parent feeling comfortable. Do not overlook it.

Cleanliness

When searching for potential places for your parent to live, you will no doubt look at the facilities. While those features are certainly crucial for your mom or dad’s ongoing comfort, it’s vital to appreciate other factors. Cleanliness is one that should sit at the top of your agenda.

Retirement homes of all types are vulnerable to poor hygiene. This is partly due to the fact that many of the elderly residents cannot control all bodily functions. Without the right cleaning, germs can spread fast. Visit www.medlineplus.gov to learn more about the changes to the immune system that come with age. With this knowledge, you’ll soon see why a clean environment is key for their health.

In addition to the physical benefits, clean surroundings promote increased happiness. Photographs of the establishment are useful. In truth, though, completing at least a handful of visits before confirming your selection is the only answer.

Staff Attitude

Even if you intend to visit on a regular basis, it’s impossible to be there for your parent on a 24/7 basis. In truth, your busy lifestyle and other commitments are among the main reasons that living with you wasn’t a viable option. As such, you need to have confidence in the staff.

Getting older can be terrifying at the best of times. However, life will be far more daunting if they aren’t receiving the empathetic and friendly care that they desire. When visiting potential care homes, it’s imperative that you interact with as many staff members as possible. This is the only way that you’ll truly gauge whether they can provide the right atmosphere for your beloved family member.

On a separate note, depending on your background, it may be worth finding a care home where workers speak in your mom or dad’s first language When things are daunting, speaking in their mother tongue can be very comforting indeed.

Specialities

No two elderly citizens are identical. Therefore, it would be very naïve to think that there is a one size fits all answer when finding a home. Taking the individual situations and circumstances into account is pivotal. Choosing a generic home not suited to those needs could spell disaster.

It’s not simply a case of checking the facilities for physical limitations either. As life expectancy grows, the number of seniors suffering problems with the brain increases. Visit www.parcprovence.com/ to find out more about care homes for Alzheimer’s patients. When the retirement home is built specifically with those requirements in mind, the service provided will be far greater.

There are plenty of other conditions or issues that may need to be considered when finding the right place for your parent to stay. As long as it fits around their individual troubles, there’s no doubt that the foundations will look far stronger.

Reputation

The history and presence of the residential senior home is vital for many reasons. Firstly, a combination of accolades and positive testimonials suggest that the business can be trusted. However, this type of crucial insight isn’t the only benefit of seeking a respected company.

Ultimately, once you choose a home for your parent, it should be the place they can stay for the rest of their life. Moving again is the last thing that anybody needs. A company with a good reputation is far less likely to go under compared to one that’s only just started. This additional sense of stability is something that should not be underestimated for a second.

Apart from anything else, the knowledge that the company can be trusted provides peace of mind. Without this, you’ll constantly wonder whether your parent is suffering in silence due to bad care. Besides, an established company will have experience of treating people from all backgrounds.

Communication Links

A care home should be ready to provide your parent with everything they could possibly need for a healthy and happy retirement. Nonetheless, they need to respect that family members still have a lot of love for the resident. Essentially, they need to work with you rather than against.

In many ways, you will be reliant on their updates. Finding a care home that is always there to provide the necessary information is vital. Likewise, their cooperation when planning events for your mom or dad’s birthday can make a world of difference. After all, your only concern is that your loved one enjoys the best retirement possible.

If it is difficult to contact them during the planning phase, it should have the alarm bells ringing. Meanwhile, paying attention to how staff interact with visitors during your look around the venue can be very useful. Ultimately, if their communication with you is poor, links to medical experts could be inadequate too.

The Final Word

In most cases, your gut instinct will tell you a lot. Still, going the extra mile to analyze each of the items above will help with the decision making process. If that means that your mom or dad enjoys a better retirement, those efforts will be more than worthwhile.

How to Decide on a Location for Your Wedding

Reviews ·

The location of your wedding is the canvas. It is the crucial backbone for the look and feel for your big day. That is why you need to put effort into the venue. The best option for you will not be the most obvious option, because there is no way to know all the available spaces near you. You also need to be careful about your budget. You can find the ideal place in your budget, but it can be dangerous if you set your heart on one that is too expensive. That is why, to help you decide on the perfect location for your wedding, you should follow this guide but the costs do dd up, especially when you’re hiring lights, a band and a venue.

  1. Local or Abroad?

Having a destination wedding may seem like a great idea, but the costs do add up. That is why you need to make sure that you have a plan for plane tickets, for the venue, for the accommodation, and for the catering for you and all of your guests. Simply requiring your guests to pay for themselves can limit the number of people who actually attend your wedding, and paying for all of your guests can add up fast..

Local weddings, though not as exotic, offer you the chance to have a beautiful wedding without blowing your budget. This is especially true if you visit UK Wedding Savings, where you can find discounts on beautiful manors and venues.. In regards to the catering, be sure to find a
highly experienced catering service such as IDEAL PARTY. This will ensure the service is smooth and the food is amazing.

  1. How Many Guests do You Have?

Another thing that you must consider is how many guests you have coming. The size of the venue will depend on how many people you absolutely must have attending. If you have a small budget, keep the wedding small. You’ll have a beautifully intimate wedding that ticks all the boxes. If, on the other hand, you want to have a lot of guests, the venue you choose will also have to reflect this.

  1. Is There Accommodation Available?

One of the best parts of any wedding is the reception. The party is a chance to have fun, let loose, and celebrate. The drinking involved, however, can mean that many of your guests won’t be able to get home – if, for instance, they live a few hours away. That is why you need to ensure that there is enough accommodation available either in the venue or nearby.

You could either hire out a few rooms for your guests, if most of them live nearby, or you might even be able to work out a deal with the venue so that your guests get a discount. Regardless of what you do, make sure that no one attempts to drive home drunk.

Your wedding venue needs to be beautiful, but above all else, it also needs to provide everything you need. Make sure it is an appropriate size, and that it can hold your party. Once you ensure the venue is within your budget and has all you need it to, you can then choose the one that calls to you. You can have your picture-perfect wedding, you just need to fall in love with the venue first.

How To Overcome Your Fear Of Aging

Reviews ·

Growing older is inevitable. We all go through the aging process and will experience the highs and lows of the different milestones in life. The key is to not let fear stop you from living your life and continuing to be happy.

While it’s understandable to be apprehensive of what the future holds, you don’t want it to cause you to not enjoy your time in the present. Stay in Shape

Find Purpose in Life

Aging isn’t so bad when you have purpose and reason to get out of bed in the morning. Find a job you love, connect with friends and family and choose activities on the side that interest you. You have to stay moving and busy and not think too long and hard about age. Practice gratitude and be thankful for what you do have. Cherish the little moments and remember all the good times you’ve had throughout your life already.

Conclusion

There’s no reason to freak out about getting older. Implement these suggestions for getting yourself to a good place to welcome change. Live for the moment and focus on all you have going for you.
