At the end of the day, when you are turning your bed down and getting ready for bed… where are all those pretty throw pillows going to go? Mine go on the floor and shamefully enough, seem to attach themselves to the only dust ball in the whole house. Or, they become a step-on toy for my kids and the ever popular racetrack for my son’s cars. Well, I am sorry kids, (but yet not sorry, haha) to say goodbye to all of that, and “Hello!” to Pillow Haven. Read more here…

giveaway · December 6, 2019

Hanukkah 2019 will begin in the evening of Sunday, December 22 and the centerpiece of the Hanukkah celebration is the Hanukkah or menorah, a candelabrum that holds nine candles.

The Fort Schuyler Trading Company is sponsoring a 100% Pure Beeswax Menorah Hanukkah Taper Candles giveaway and as a bonus, Crooked Brook is throwing in one, Fleece Blanket (winner’s choice of color), one Sweatshirt Blanket (Royal Blue) and one, travel/neck Buckwheat Hull Pillow made in 100% Organic Cotton Twill Fabric!

How to Make Your Bedroom Cozier

Reviews · May 28, 2018

When your bedroom or bed isn’t that inviting, you’re far less likely to want to get to bed at a reasonable hour. You stay up later but still must rise at the same time to get ready for work on the weekdays. You end up fighting against yourself in this way.

It’s much better to create a pleasant bedroom environment that suits you and any partner you may have in life. It’s easier to relax before going to sleep for sure.

Here are a few ideas for you.

Comfy Mattress and Pillow?

If you find that your mattress is too old and you’re dodging the springs poking through, then it’s long since time for a change. You can enjoy NASA-inspired memory foam to experience floating on air – or at least the feeling of such. Latex foam for people not allergic provides a bouncier floating feeling if that’s preferable. Obviously, a water bed is a possibility but it’s a bit difficult to manage and maintain one. And the old standby, the innerspring mattress is always a good option if you need greater back support or are allergic to foam fillings. Don’t forget pillow top mattresses with a soft top layer to ease you in.

Pillows also need to suit your sleeping position too. Some are angular, others let you sink deep into them and there are also ones that focus on neck support too. Check out bedowl.com for product information if you’re thinking of buying a replacement bed or pillow soon.

Softer, More Controllable Lighting

It pays to think about the lighting in the bedroom. Certainly, you want to have dimmer switches fitted so you can adjust the illumination level. Side table lamps are useful too. The light bulbs can be eco-friendly ones and there are smart ones that you can control from your smartphone without having to get out of bed to adjust the illumination level.

You may want to think about a reading light if you enjoy reading in bed. Also, consider the color of the lighting as all-white lighting in the bedroom can wear on tired eyes and be an unnecessary shock to the system in the morning too.

Seating Area

Some people enjoy having a seating area inside the bedroom. This is useful when sharing the bed with a partner and wanting to get up but not disturb them. It’s possible to relax there, read a book or take little naps without getting into a deep slumber lying in the bed.

Flooring

The flooring is a consideration for each person. Do you prefer carpeting, wooden flooring or rugs? It’s certainly pleasant to wake up, climb out of bed and put your feet on a sheepskin rug. Cold wooden floors are not always ideal, especially when coming out of the shower to the bedroom. If the flooring doesn’t make the bedroom feel cozy, it may be time for a change.

Ultimately, whatever will make the bedroom feel cozier is worth updating. It doesn’t take much to make some adjustments to enhance your enjoyment when spending time in the bedroom. Also, if you have one, don’t forget to ask your partner for suggestions as they’ll probably have some cool ideas too.

Perfecting Your Sleep Posture

Reviews · April 23, 2018

Do you find yourself waking up a little more creaky than usual? Find trouble feeling like you are actually well-rested? The issue might be in how you sleep. Here, we’re going to look at the idea of sleep posture, and how you can improve it with the right habits and the right choice of sleeping environment.

Picture sourced by Free-Photos

Make sure you have room

One of the key issues that many people face in bed is that they simply don’t have enough space to get as comfortable as they would like or to get in the right position. Single beds aren’t really suited for anyone but children. Find king bedroom furniture sets that allow you to free up that space and move more freely throughout the night. Otherwise, you are going to find yourself fighting to get comfortable where you just don’t have the space that can allow you to do so.

Choose the mattress to fit your sleeping style

Have trouble navigating the world of all those different mattress styles out there? The key to choosing the right balance of firmness and softness could lie in your sleeping position. If you sleep on your back, for instance, it’s recommended you choose a firmer mattress that provides plenty of support to the lumbar region. If you sleep on your side, however, then a mattress that allows you to sink in and better wraps around your form can provide that support, instead. Look at mattress buying guides to choose the best fit for your posture.

Heads up

The mattress plays the key role when it comes to supporting your back, but when you’re talking about your head, you have to take a closer look at the pillow. If you don’t fluff your pillows regularly, now is the time to start. Not only does it make it feel more comfortable, but it helps those cushions better retain their shape in the night. Think about investing in pocket spring pillows if your neck is feeling a little sore in the morning, too. Your head needs to be elevated off the pillow otherwise it tends to sink a little lower than the rest of your body which can strain it throughout the night.

Make sure you relax

The physical stress you take to bed with you can stay during the night, too, making it harder to relax. A stressed head leads to a tight body, wound up like a spring. If your muscles are naturally tenser, this creates friction which can cause pain in the joints, back and neck. Try to relax at nighttime, whether this means having a warm, comfy bath, using aromatherapy, or taking the time to meditate. Create a nightly ritual that helps you feel de-stressed and ready for bed.

If your head or back aren’t supported as you sleep, pain in lower back and neck can become all too common. Left untreated for long, these issues can become serious, even chronic. Make sure your bed takes care of you and it will be easier to take care of yourself outside of it, too.
