Get Your Home Ready for the Summer Season

Reviews · May 12, 2018

As you’re making plans for the upcoming summer season, be sure you schedule some time to get your home in order. Summer home maintenance might not be as enjoyable as planning a vacation, but tips for a summer-ready home can save you time and money, time and money you’d likely rather spend on more enjoyable endeavors. Ready to learn?

Take Care of Your HVAC System

One of the first things to do is give your HVAC system a checkup and tuneup, if necessary. This means cleaning or replacing your filters, depending on what kind they are, cleaning debris from the vents and exhausts as well as testing your unit to make sure it’s in working order. The summer season is also a good time to call a professional out to your home to visually inspect and maintain your HVAC system to ensure it’s fully operational and that there aren’t any minor problems to tend to.

Clean Off Your Walkway

Have a professional pressure wash your walkways and driveway to get rid of grit and grime that’s accumulated, which improves its appearance and allows surfaces to last longer. As you’re washing, keep a close eye out for cracked or broken pavers and bricks. You can flip them over if you like, replace them or use masonry filler to address bothersome cracks. Just make sure the filler is the same color as your pavers or bricks.

Tend to Your Carbon Monoxide and Smoke Detectors

Check all the smoke and carbon monoxide detectors in your home, making sure they all have fresh batteries and that they actually work. You’ll want to place carbon monoxide detectors close to bedrooms, mainly because the odorless gas is most potent while we’re sleeping. Besides bedrooms, other recommended areas of the home that need carbon monoxide detectors include the living room, kitchen and near the furnace. As for smoke detectors, position them close to the kitchen, near bedrooms and on every level of your home. To save money and keep your home from looking like a carbon monoxide and smoke detector museum, know that there are combination detectors you can buy.

Check Your Windows

You’re likely to crank up the air conditioning in the summer, and cooled air can escape through any gaps that exist in your windows. Use caulk to take care of any gaps in your window frames, making sure you inspect the weatherstripping to see that it’s in good condition. Opening and closing your windows a few times is also a good idea to ensure they’re fully operational. Make arrangements to replace faulty windows with ones that are more energy efficient. Not only are new windows a good way to keep your heating and cooling costs low, they can also boost the overall value of your home should you decide to put it on the market in the future.

Finally, washing your windows this summer is also a good idea. When you do wash your windows, it’s best to use a squeegee and tend to them on a cloudy day to lower the potential for unsightly leftover streaks.

Prepare Your Home Against Bug Invasions

Bugs also make vacation plans during the summer, and they might see your home as the perfect getaway destination. Hang up the “no vacancy” sign by checking all doors and windows for leaks, much like you would to prevent drafts and a loss of heated or cooled air. Spraying pesticides outside your home and along baseboards and windows as well as doors is also recommended. You may want to reach out to a pest control service for professional help, which is a good idea if you’ve had problems with bugs in the past.

Make home maintenance a priority this summer season. Your property is sure to look and function better for your efforts.

Top Health Tips For Busy Entrepreneurs

Reviews · May 11, 2018

As a business leader, you’re always busy. Whether you’re working for a startup or a small business, or you’re a freelancer who’s constantly making connections with new clients, it feels like you’re always busy. Usually, that’s a good thing. After all, when nothing’s going on, that doesn’t mean the best for your business. But never stopping to take a breath or to take stock of your physical or emotional health can have devastating consequences not only for you but your business, too.

Whether you’re a dropshipping supplier or run an environmentally-friendly printer’s shop, health comes first. So if you’re ready to change your busy entrepreneur lifestyle, and make a little room for health in it, remember to follow these tips.

1 Remember to sleep

Yes, we know. Sleeping is, ironically, your worst nightmare. Not only does it take a lot of time away from your business–seven to nine hours is a lot to lose when it comes to making money–but you probably have a lot of trouble falling asleep in the first place. For some reason, all the best ideas seem to come to you late at night, just as you’re finally shutting your eyes. But that doesn’t matter. The fact is, sleep is essential.

In fact, according to the Harvard Business Review, “In a separate study of 81 organizations and 189,000 people around the world, we found that four types of leadership behavior are most commonly associated with high-quality executive teams: operating with a strong orientation to results, solving problems effectively, seeking out different perspectives, and supporting others. What’s striking in all four cases is the proven link between sleep and effective leadership.” So if you were losing sleep before because you thought it was beneficial to your business–think again. It’s time to change those habits, and invest in a white noise machine.

2 Eat well and exercise

Okay, we know. It’s hard to eat well, especially when all you’re doing is taking business trips or getting drinks with potential clients at a cool club downtown. But unfortunately, we live in a world where people are taken less seriously if they don’t look in a suit or pantyhose, being unhealthy is dangerous in two ways. For one thing, it will impact how you feel (and how you look). For another, it will impact how you’re seen in the business community. Hopefully one day this will change, but for now, if you take your career seriously, eating well can be key to making that next partnership or locking in that next deal.

We know, however, that it can be hard to make time for eating well. That’s why it’s so important to use technology. Take the app MyFitnessPal, for example, an alternative to calorie-counting. According to pocket-lint.com, MyFitnessPal “is a free calorie counting app that features a food database of over 5 million foods…The app…creates a custom plan for you, providing you with a calorie goal to work towards, which appears on the top of the diary page where you add your food, exercise, and water intake. As you add, you’ll see the food calories being deducted and the exercise calories added, so it’s easy to keep track.”

Don’t forget to be healthy with your relationship to food, too. It’s easy to overeat anytime you’re stressed, or feeling guilty about losing family time because of your job. And remember: if you do slip up, don’t beat yourself up more. Instead, you can focus on exercising to feel better. Using an app like ClassPass or Fit30 means that you can make time for exercise even with the busiest of schedules.

3 Spend some time with people you love, doing what you love

Most importantly, don’t forget to spend quality time with the people you love. Whether it’s spending Saturday with your family on a hike or getting a drink with your best friends on a Friday night, this will distract you from all your worries and remind you of the importance of personal connections. Especially if you’re starting a new business, it can be easy to lose sight of this. But remember: work is the top cause of stress in the US, so you need to get away from it sometimes. No matter how hard you want to be working.

If you find it hard to pull yourself away, try some of these techniques from Lifehack.

By following these tips, you’ll be healthier than ever, no matter how busy you are. Which of these health tips do you think will be most challenging to follow? How do you plan on facing that challenge?

A Brief Guide to Keeping your Chest Muscles Healthy

Reviews · May 9, 2018

There is nothing that can beat the fear of health problems better than regular work out sessions. When you work out regularly, you do get toned and ripped but you also gain confidence to sport things you couldn’t have imagined sporting before. As a man you might have never had the guts to go shirtless at a beach or as a woman, bikinis may have been your dread, however there are a lot of fun and effective exercises out there that bring you in shape with a little effort and a little pain. When it comes to chest muscles, there are a lot of ways to tone those pectoral muscles and make then firmer and shapely with time. Here are a few ways you can keep your chest muscles in good health.

Chest press

There are a lot of ways to accomplish the exercise known as chest press. Whether you do it with weights on your own or use a machine, the central idea here is to isolate your chest muscles while working out. If you use a machine you are more likely to achieve that, since the machine lets you keep all your other muscles at rest and builds up the intensity at your chest. Doing this is definitely going to make visible improvements over time.

Bench press

One of the most common, relatively easy yet effective ways to get your chest in shape is to bench press with barbells. Do not overestimate yourself and go for a high weight on the very first day. The idea is to gradually increase your potential. Barbell bench press not only brings shape but also builds strength in your chest muscles. There is no point in looking good if there is no core strength to support it. Bench press does just that for you, since here it is completely your effort, and since you expend all your strength it eventually raises your stamina and your core strength.

Push ups

The good old push-ups will never let you down. Push-ups not only work on your chest muscles but also on your back shoulder and core muscles. It is also an effective lower chest workout. However since push-ups seem like relatively easy to do, it is important that you have your posture and breathing right. There is no point in doing 100 push-ups a day only to see your body deteriorate. Simple exercises are the easiest to mess up. So the technique has to be perfected for an effective work out. Make sure you do not strain your shoulders when holding your position and your hips do not protrude; rather keep holding the plank formation.

There is no gain without pain. Exercising is difficult and it definitely hurts. However, being healthy is a lifestyle that is made as a choice. Eating clean and pushing your physical boundaries each day, getting toned and building stamina have a fervor and passionate addiction of their own. Start making better choices for a better lifestyle and watch yourself improve every day.
