Enriching Activities for Those Confined To Bed

Being confined to the bed when unwell can seem frustrating at times. If you are suffering from illness or injury and are out of action for a long period of time, it is important to remain occupied to offer variety, particularly if you are unable to leave your bed for whatever reason. Here are some uplifting activities for people confined to bed, which can help them make the best use of those long hours.

Staying Entertained

Keeping entertained is obviously the main objective if you find yourself confined to bed. Try not to overexert yourself, as this can lead to further injury or pain. Taking up a new hobby, or setting out a goal of a certain amount of movies to watch can be a great way to pass the hours. Board games and card games with friends are another great way to occupy yourself. Broaden your horizons and try out new games that you haven’t previously tried. Challenge yourself while bed bound, and by the time you are better, you could be the next pro to a game or hobby. Utilize the time in bed as much as possible, as opposed to becoming massively frustrated about your situation.

Catch up with people

You may be able to find time to call a loved one who lives away or write a letter to a long lost pen pal. Try and get some admin tasks done that you ran out of time to do before. Suddenly that to do list will become far less daunting.

Riddles

Riddles are a great way of keeping someone occupied. You could look for –

  • Book of riddles

  • Quizzes

  • Word search games

  • Sodoku books

  • Arithmetic logic books

There is a saying, ‘an empty mind is the devil’s workshop.’ Being engrossed in these books certainly can help distract and occupy your mind if you are becoming frustrated with your current situation.

Art and Craft

Arts and crafts are known to be massively beneficial in terms of the therapeutic process involved. Not only does this activity help them challenge your creativity, but you are also credited with a sense of accomplishment once a particular piece has been completed. You might even surprise yourself and put this skill to practice on a daily basis! To get some inspiration on where to start, get some inspiration from sites such origami way.

Upper-body Exercises

Playing catch and toss with a balloon is a great one on one stay-in-bed exercise. Other exercises can include –

  • Lifting foldable dumbbells

  • Arm wrestling

  • Synchronized hand movements with music

Taking Care of a plant

Placing a small plant by your bedside and take care of it. This can distract and occupy you and gives you some responsibility.

Reading

Reading is another great way to distract yourself. Be it magazines, books or newspaper, spending some time relaxing and losing yourself in a book or article can be the perfect escape to fill those hours which sometimes feel never-ending. You can expand your knowledge about certain subjects too.
