Listen Up! Taking Care Of Your Hearing

Reviews · August 15, 2018

There are times when we can’t prevent hearing loss. In fact, the majority of people will experience some decline in the quality of their hearing the older they get. However, there are a few instances of hearing loss that can be prevented. For instance, deafness that comes about after listening to very loud music for long periods of time is completely avoidable.

Here are a few things that you can do to take care of your hearing and to try and prevent avoidable deafness.

Pexel

Stay Away From Loud Noises

It’s always best to stay away from any very loud environments. However, that isn’t always possible, but at least there are some preventative measures you can take to look after your ears. If you work with loud machinery or in a similarly loud environment, you should always wear ear protection. In fact, your boss or employer should provide you with these. Another loud environment that can be problematic is a music concert. If you enjoy seeing your favorite band play live, you should always wear earplugs or else you might develop tinnitus.

Don’t Clean With Cotton Buds

Keeping your ears clean is also really important as this can prevent an excessive buildup of earwax. However, make sure you don’t ever try to clean your ears with cotton buds. Even though these little buds may have been designed with ears in mind, they can actually be quite dangerous. It’s easy to push them too far inside the ear canal and cause damage, such as a burst eardrum. Instead of using cotton buds, simply clean the inside of your ear with a soft, damp cloth.

Get Checkups Regularly

It is also important to get an ear and hearing check up on a regular basis. Ideally, this should be carried out once a year, but you might need to increase the frequency as you start to age. During the checkup, your doctor can advise you on any potential issues that you might need to be aware of. If you do show signs of some hearing loss already, he can also inform you of the best hearing aid for the money and any other treatments that could be beneficial to you. He’ll also be able to answer any questions that you may have about your hearing.

Watch Out When Listening To Music

You also need to be extra careful if you enjoy listening to music, especially if you regularly listen to it on the go through your headphones. Firstly, make sure that you don’t accidentally push your headphones too far into your ears. If you do, they may cause some damage. Secondly, be sure to keep the volume down on your headphones. Listening to loud music through headphones is another common cause of tinnitus and other hearing issues.

As you can see, there are plenty of preventative measures when it comes to hearing loss. It’s good to start using them now so that you can continue to enjoy good hearing and ear health well into the future!

You may own your own car, but there are plenty of facts we bet you didn’t know about the wonderful world of automobiles. Since the introduction of the motor car in the late 19th century, people the world over have become fascinated with these vehicles. The car has evolved into high-speed models, colourful creations, and symbols of status. Here are some fascinating facts about the much-loved motor car for you, your family, and your friends to enjoy.

Watching paint dry
It takes an average of 25 hours to build one car. You would think individual mechanics of the vehicle would be the most time-consuming part, yet, incredibly, it takes ten hours to just paint an averaged sized vehicle.

Massive fine
Speeding anywhere but on the race track, or on private property, is not OK, and to prove that, the Swedish government issued a fine the equivalent of $1,000,000 to a man traveling over the permitted limit. In Sweden fines are issued as a percentage of your earnings, and to date, this is the largest fine ever given for speeding anywhere in the world.

OMG it’s an OEM!
Ever heard of the acronym, OEM? Perhaps you want to wow your friends with some auto-jargon? An OEM stands for Original Equipment Manufacturers and is a term used to describe certain companies that produce parts and subsystems which are then used in another product created by a different company. Confused? Discover more about the OEM Meaning at Tuning Guru, and marvel your fellow car enthusiasts with some more fascinating facts.

Expensive tastes
You may have noticed that some coffee chains charge an astonishing amount for their premium coffee choices. To get an idea of just how expensive a coffee can be, check out this fact – you will be charged 8 times more for a gallon of Grande Latte Starbucks than for a gallon of gas!

Speaking of coffee…
If you love coffee and are looking for ways to reuse all those coffee grounds, take a look at the Car-puccino. This one-off car runs on coffee grounds, travels at speeds of up to 60 miles per hour, and requires re-filling and cleaning every 30 to 45 miles. Not exactly a convenient way to travel, but it is certainly one way to help the environment.

Clean machines
Cleaning your car can be quite therapeutic and is a great way for your kids to earn some pocket money. However, not all people enjoy giving their car a good wash as apparently 16% of people in America never wash their car. Is that even hygienic?

How Not To Trip Up On A Business Meeting Abroad

Reviews · May 30, 2018

Travel isn’t always for pleasure. Sometimes, you’ve got to suck it up and jet off to exotic destinations for the sake of your career. It’s a difficult life! Joking aside, business meetings abroad aren’t a walk in the park. Apart from being away from friends and family, there is the constant, non-stop traveling that is exhausting. Plus, there’s the pressure to nail it at the first attempt and generate new leads. Tripping up, then, is pretty straightforward if you’re not prepared or focused on the task at hand. Thankfully, there is no reason to worry too much with these tricks.

Pack Properly

There is a temptation to throw everything and anything in a suitcase and head to the airport. Sadly, this is a bad move because it is inevitable that something will get left behind. On holiday, this isn’t a problem because you can usually pick it up from a local store at half the price. During a business meeting, it may be the critical feature that makes or breaks the overall presentation. With that in mind, write a list of the must-haves and put them in order. Then, as they go in the case, tick them off so that you know they are somewhere in your luggage.

Map The Trip

Remember that this isn’t a regular day in the office. Nope, this is a foreign country where everything can differ, from the taxis to the public transport to the time. No one wants to get caught out yet they do regardless because it’s incredibly easy. Therefore, it’s normally a savvy idea to map out the trip in your head. Where do you have to be in the morning and the afternoon? At what time? Do you know how long the journey takes? Google Maps has answers for all of these questions. All you have to do is download the app and research the area.

Unwind Every Night

Rest is vital because it keeps you fresh and focused for the entirety of the trip. So, the accommodation needs to be tranquil and provide plenty of excuses to unwind. A pool is a basic yet useful resource, as is a bar. Don’t assume this implies that you should shun all business duties. The Courtyard Marriott has event space and a business center that makes it an excellent choice in case there are last-minute complications. Still, don’t stay up all night working your mind and body into the ground. Switch off, grab something to eat and de-stress with a couple of drinks by the bar.

Keep The Receipts

The company should pay for any expenses or contribute to them at the very least. However, they won’t take your word and need evidence. Apparently, they don’t trust their employees to tell the truth. As a result, the receipts are imperative. Otherwise, they won’t reimburse you and your personal finances will take a hit. It’s amazing how many people lose out moneywise on a business trip because they are careless with receipts.

What do you do to ensure you kill it during a business meeting abroad?

Save Money Without Any Effort Using These Tips

Reviews · May 23, 2018

Who doesn’t love a bargain? When it comes to saving money, online shopping is where it’s at. You can relax in the comfort of your own home, scouting to the best deals. But are you looking in the right places? Often, much like when we go to the local shopping center or supermarket, we head the same aisles in the same stores – shake it up a bit and look for other suppliers.

Firstly, and most importantly, look at your current debts (if you have any). If you are finding it hard to reach your minimum payments and have anything left over to save with, then you might like to consider a single loan to pay everything off, then pay the loan only. If you have bad credit don’t worry too much there are lenders like https://personalloan.co/personal-loans-for-bad-credit/, who can help you with consolidation.

Work out if you could be saving on your energy. Much like how we shop, we tend to stick with companies we have been with for years. Although you might be getting the best deal, unless you call up some competitors, you won’t know for sure. You can save up to £100 depending on what tariff you are on and the offer you manage to negotiate with your prospective supplier.

Transfer the pennies and save the pounds. Each evening, head to your bank account and move your pennies into another account. It might sound a little excessive. However, if you are regularly moving between 1p and 99p by the end of the week, it will soon add up. Getting into the mindset and habit of appreciating that even coppers can make a difference at the end of the year is one of the things you’ll need to do to save successfully.

Plan your meals, and don’t buy when hungry. If you have a habit of shopping online and not paying strict attention to what you’re buying, you might find you’ve wasted a lot of money and will inevitably waste food too. Sit down and make a meal plan. You can see some excellent options on Pinterest if you struggle to make your own. If you can incorporate any leftovers from the day before and maybe even batch cook for the most value for money. While you’re at it, stop buying brand goods. While you might love a specific type of biscuit, is paying an extra £2 worth it? In the long run, not really. Start buying non branded, and you will make a clear saving.

Say no. When you’re out shopping and spot another bag or pair of shoes that you have to have. Ask yourself if you even need it? Often, we buy things for the sake of it – not because we need it.

Sit down and look at where you are spending out if there are some frivolous spots then you need to address that. Adjusting your attitude towards money, how and when you spend it and what does and doesn’t matter will help you save in no time.

Reviews · May 21, 2018

You’ve likely heard people say that you only have one life to live many times over. This is a true statement that could get you thinking about what you can do to live your life to the fullest. If you only get one life, then it is in your best interest to ensure you live it the best way that you can. The first step in doing this would likely be to look at how you’re presently living your life. You could then move on to identify things that you aren’t happy about as well as areas of your life that could do with a little improvement. Doing so could be the beginning of you transforming your life for the better. To get you started or help you continue on your journey, this article is going to look at practical ways that you can improve your quality of life.

Practice Positive Affirmation

Developing the habit of practicing positive affirmations on a daily basis is one way of improving your quality of life. Doing so can help change your thoughts about yourself and as a result, help you to attract the energy and believe in your desires for your life. This could mean you researching some of your favorite quotes and reading them out loud every morning or watching positive shows as well as reading the right articles. Whatever information you take in should inspire you and reaffirm positive thoughts that you have about and towards yourself.

Some ways of practicing positive affirmation and making it work for you include making a list of what you’ve always thought of as your negative qualities, writing out an affirmation on the positive aspect of your self-judgment, speaking the positive affirmation out loud for at least five minutes three times a day and then getting a friend or coach to speak your affirmations to you as well. This can be an effective way of turning negative thoughts around which is a great place to start when improving your quality of life.

Develop Good Habits

The habits that you engage in can have a significant impact on the sort of life that you end up living. For this reason, it’s key that you learn to develop good habits to improve your quality of life. This could mean learning to be more patient, smiling when you’re stressed, showing more gratitude and putting your finances in order. Doing so should help improve the direction your life goes in and help attract positive things your way. When you develop good habits, you may also find that life is easier to manage, and you feel less overwhelmed. This is because bad habits usually have negative effects on you physically, mentally, or emotionally.

Do an Act of Kindness Everyday

You may not know this, but acts of kindness are a great way of improving the quality of your life. It can be easy to get lost in your life and forget there are people around you that could do with a helping hand, encouraging words, or a little assistance. On that note, if you’re in a position to give or help, you should try to do so every day. It doesn’t always have to be a grand gesture as love can be expressed in the simplest of ways. It could be by buying someone a cup of coffee, patronizing a friend’s business, or taking time out to help an elderly person with groceries. You can also do more conventional things such as giving to charity or helping out family members who may be incapable of helping themselves. Some benefits of kindness include making you happier, giving you a healthier heart, slowing down aging, and improving your relationships. While it may come easy to some, others have to work a little harder at being kind and develop it as more of a habit. If you can do so, you should find that with time, your quality of life begins to improve and in some respects, you may even start to feel more fulfilled as giving to others sometimes has that effect.

Rid Yourself of Addictions

Following on from the previous point, sometimes people tend to pick up bad habits for various reasons such as environmental influences, peer pressure, or stress and depression. Whatever the reason, bad habits can lead to addictions in various aspects of your life. It could be an addiction to biting your nails, overeating, gambling or even substance abuse.

A prevalent addiction in this present-day society is that of opiates, and it’s affecting people globally. If you view here, you’ll see the process of breaking such an addiction and how difficult it can be to get through. For this reason, it’s best to nip addictions in the bud before they get out of hand and take a turn for the worse. No matter what addiction you happen to be struggling with, there are many practical ways that you can rid yourself of them. Some include meditation, self-determination, joining an effective support group, being transparent about your struggles, finding an accountability partner, changing your lifestyle, and overcoming your fears. By doing some of these things, being patient with yourself, and not giving up, you should find you’re able to overcome it with time. However, ignoring addictions or trying to sweep them under the rug could negatively affect your quality of life, so addressing them is key.

Improve Your Finances

Another way to improve your quality life is to work on your finances. In practical terms, doing so can improve your standard of living drastically, which can make life more comfortable, flexible, and interesting. Although money isn’t everything, there are many things you can do when you aren’t worried about paying your bills. For one, it gives you a clear mind to pursue your dreams, enables you to get better quality things, and also gives you more options. Some ways that you can begin working on your finances if you aren’t doing so already include saving more, setting financial goals, reading more finance books, learning about suitable investments, getting more out of workplace benefits if you’re working for someone, preparing for retirement early on, paying off debt, spending less on food, improving your credit score, and calculating your networth. You should try and take your finances as seriously as possible as they can truly affect the quality of your life.

Develop Yourself

One of the best investments you can make is in yourself, so improving your quality of life requires that you continuously improve yourself. Some ideas for self-improvement include reading more, surrounding yourself with the right people, taking the time out to adequately develop your skills, and being open to new experiences. By doing this consistently, you should find that you’re growing as an individual, getting better, and expanding your horizons.

If you find that you aren’t seeing much improvement and your self-development efforts aren’t working then perhaps you aren’t listening effectively, being open to the ideas of others, being honest with yourself, taking the time to develop others, or using your initiative. Remember, you can’t do it all alone so giving is just as much a part of self-development as taking is.

Make Your Happiness a Priority

Being happy is something most people wish would be a permanent state. Although that would be nice, in reality, happiness is often a choice. There are so many things that will try to destabilize your happiness on a daily basis, but if you want a better quality life, choosing happiness has to be your priority. There are several ways to control your happiness like not being your own worst enemy, choosing to be grateful irrespective of your circumstances, cherishing pleasant experiences, living in the moment, and being optimistic. Choosing happiness is something that will take a little work, but in the end, it should become something that you’re good at.

Look After Your Body

Your body is the only house that your spirit is going to get, so looking after it is key. You likely already know what it takes to keep it healthy such as eating the right foods, engaging in the right level of activity, and staying away from harmful substances. Your quality of life can be directly affected by your health, so looking after it is essential. You can try books, apps, friends who have adopted a healthy lifestyle, and anything else that works for you to keep you motivated and on track when it comes to looking after your body.

It is true that you can’t control everything, but there are many aspects of your life that are within your control. You have the steering wheel when it comes to your life, so you have the control to navigate it in any direction you want it to go in. It usually requires a series of well-thought-out and conscious decisions that work together for your good as well as a willingness to be open to improvement. There is always an opportunity to improve and get better, so hopefully, by applying some of the suggestions above, you will find your quality of life gradually improving.
