Christmas movies are all the rage in my home. During this time of the year, These type of movies are all we watch. I really think an action holiday movie helps to put us in the holiday mood~

The Christmas Chronicles is a wishful, hilarious, family festive adventure. This is our first live action family film with a well established director and big profile actor in Kurt Russell. From producer Chris Columbus (“Home Alone”, “Harry Potter”) and director Clay Kaytis (“The Angry Birds Movie”), The Christmas Chronicles, tells the story of sister and brother, Kate (Darby Camp) and Teddy Pierce (Judah Lewis), whose Christmas Eve plan to catch Santa Claus (Kurt Russell) on camera turns into an unexpected journey that most kids could only dream about. After staking out Santa’s arrival, they sneak into his sleigh, cause it to crash and nearly derail Christmas. As their wild night unfolds, Kate and Teddy work together with Santa – as you’ve never seen him before – and his loyal Elves to save Christmas before it’s too late. The Christmas Chronicles premieres on Netflix, November 22, 2018!

I  consider myself very lucky in that I was able to view this trailer of The Christmas Chronicles. This trailer has over  340,000+ views. So, They must be doing something right. I am such a huge Kurt Russell fan! I hope you will join me in watching The Christmas Chronicles on November 22nd.

The Netflix Vs Cable Debate: Why Netflix May Not Be The Clear Winner

Reviews · February 16, 2018

It’s a rainy Saturday afternoon and you need to entertain the kids. You want to relax and enjoy a little rare time to yourself. It’s been a long and demanding day and you want to immerse yourself in a fictional fantasy world. Your brain is exhausted from your studies and you need to switch your brain off for a while. Whatever your reason for switching on the TV, it’s safe to say that today’s TV enthusiasts face an embarrassment of riches when it comes to choice. Over the past 20 years cable TV has become more and more interactive and tailored to a unique user experience. With the advent of DVR, users are no longer beholden to the whims of the networks and can watch content at their convenience. On the other hand, the rise of streaming services like Netflix, Hulu and Amazon Prime have allowed users to watch new and exclusive content streamed into their homes via the internet.

This golden age of entertainment technology has led to furious debate over whether cable TV or streaming services offer a better experience. It would seem that streaming has won the battle as Netflix alone now has more subscribers than cable TV. However, the debate is far from over as there are some intrinsic disadvantages to the subscription service model that muddy the waters of debate a little further…

You can have too much choice

There’s nothing, absolutely nothing more frustrating than cycling through screen after screen after screen of cover art and blurbs, perusing ridiculously obscure categories (“SouthWest Indian Movies With Tragicomic Overtones Featuring A Strong Female Lead”) as you and your partner heatedly debate what to watch. Before you know it the browsing process has eaten into your sparse free time and eroded your relationship. Choice is a fine thing, but too much choice can be more hassle than it’s worth.

Netflix giveth, Netflix taketh away

There’s nothing more frustrating than when your favorite streaming service plays host to season after season of a show you love, only to inexplicably take that show off the menu when you’re half way through. Plot threads are left dangling, character arcs are left unresolved and you’re left angry and frustrated and wishing you’d never bothered in the first place. Cable providers like optimum.com offer a wealth of choice without taking away your content at a moment’s notice. Plus your DVRd content can be stored locally.

Discovery can be easier with cable

It can be hard to discover a movie or TV show when all you have to go on is a small rectangle of cover art and a 2 or 3 sentence blurb. When watching cable and flicking through channels you can get a feel for a movie or TV show in progress and choose to either stick with it or not depending on how you feel about it. It’s not so easy on a streaming service.

The subscription bandwagon has not yet begun to roll

At the moment Netflix, Amazon and Hulu have a cosy triopoly but it seems like more providers will be getting on the subscription bandwagon over the next few years. As Disney, Warner Bros. and Paramount all launch their own streaming services with their own exclusive content you can expect them to hoover up the content currently exhibited by other providers. So, if you love the Daredevil series on Netflix your days of watching it may be numbered unless you subscribe to Disney’s app.

Why Does Netflix Cancel Popular Shows?

Reviews · November 1, 2017

Netflix is a hugely popular streaming provider. It began life as a service where subscribers could rent DVDs, but it has begun creating its own original content – to rave reviews and critical acclaim. Back in 2013, Netflix was the first streaming TV company to win an Emmy award. House of Cards picked up an Emmy for Best Direction. Netflix also won an Emmy for comedy writing (Master of None), which is a sign that the streaming giants are pulling out all the stops to create content audiences love.

But despite the big bucks Netflix poured into the creation of original content, Netflix sometimes cancels series at the height of their popularity. So, why does this happen and what is really going on behind the scenes?

As Netflixguides.com has recently revealed, season four of The Following has been cancelled, but it isn’t the first show to be axed by Netflix. Other shows axed include Sense8, Bloodline, Hemlock Grove, Marco Polo, and Longmire. Some drop off Netflix with barely a murmur, but in the case of Sense8, the news that the ground-breaking series would not be renewed by Netflix caused a storm on social media, especially given it ended on a cliff-hanger!

It’s All About Money

Money is usually to blame when a series is cancelled. Netflix original content costs money to produce. Some shows have huge budgets, but if audience numbers are dwindling, which was the case with The Following, the numbers no longer add up.

Netflix’s core audience is in the 18-45 demographic. These are the people most susceptible to advertising, so if a show is losing its audience or the audience is in an older demographic, advertising revenue will take a tumble. Advertising revenue pays the bills. It’s a simple case of double-entry bookkeeping. Sense8 was filmed in 16 cities in 13 different countries around the world. It featured amazing special effects and huge set pieces with hundreds of people. By anyone’s standards, Sense8 was a big-budget production.

Pushing Boundaries

It pushed boundaries and attracted a core group of fans, which is why there was an outcry when the show was cancelled. Unfortunately, no amount of popularity can save a show if the advertising revenue doesn’t cover the production budget. This was the case with Sense8, although the show’s producers have since announced a two-hour special will be screened in the New Year, to tie up loose ends and give fans a finale they deserve.

Media Storm

Money isn’t always the reason why a show is canned. The recent media storm over allegations made against Kevin Spacey has prompted Netflix to cancel their award-winning show, House of Cards. Fans will be disappointed, but in the wake of the Harvey Weinstein scandal, it is a sign that the movie and TV industry is trying to clean up its act and show some remorse for turning a blind eye for many years.

In the meantime, we can still look forward to watching Stranger Things and other wonderful series on Netflix, so grab some popcorn and settle down for a binge.

8 Unusual Hobbies to Try Now

Reviews · October 6, 2017

Now that the weather is getting colder, the time for planning New Year’s resolutions will soon be upon us. A fresh start is often welcome after the excitement of the festive season, however, working to improve our mental and physical health isn’t easy, and many of us lose motivation before we’ve even begun. It is, however, an important matter that cannot be ignored.

You don’t have to wait until the New Year rolls around to work on a happier, healthier you, however – you can start now. Instead of dragging yourself to the gym every morning, feed your mind and body with a new hobby that speaks to your passion.

Feeling stuck? From scrapbooking to motorcycle racing, here are eight unusual hobbies you might not have considered trying.

Water Running

If you’re not a strong swimmer, like 54% of Americans, why not try water running? It’s a great sport for anyone trying to overcome a fear of water, as it involves using the shallow end of the pool. This one is just what it says on the tin: it involves running up and down swimming lanes to keep fit. It’s a great resistance exercise, which will help soothe aches and pains and overcome injuries.

Water running is an unusual sport, so you will have to keep an eye out for classes in your area. Failing this, you can always start your own. It doesn’t need to be a group activity, either. If you feel empowered, you can rent a lane at your local swimming pool and just get running.

Food Styling

Cooking is one of the best hobbies to improve your mental health and flex your creative muscles, but why not take it one step further? With the rise of Instagram and food photography, “food styling” has become a popular pastime. So why not see if there are any classes in your area? Alternatively, you could cook up your masterpieces at home and start a social media account to showcase them. Not only will you have a delicious treat at the end of it, but you will also have some creative photographs to display your skills.

Motorcycle Racing

If it’s an adrenaline boost you’re after, motorsports is a fulfilling and exciting hobby. There is an empowering movement of women riders, so there has never been a better time to join the motorcycling sisterhood. Studies show that women make up 12% of all motorcycle riders in the U.S. and that 35% reported feeling happier and more confident than before they started racing.

If you think motorsports could be for you, find a women’s biking community to join in your local area and get to grips with the basics before you compete. Once you’re ready to start racing, be sure to download a manual to keep on your phone in case of emergencies. The Tradebit website provides Harley Davidson Repair Manuals, in addition to thousands of other popular makes and models, so it’s an excellent resource to utilize if you want to start biking.

Scrapbooking

If you’re a creative soul (or even if you’re not), scrapbooking could be an ideal activity to get stuck into during your spare time. Not only is it relaxing and meditative, but it also means you can collate all of your photos and memorabilia together in handy albums and books. You can be as creative as you like with this activity: you could take pictures with a Polaroid camera and stick them in a book, collect scraps of beautiful paper and create a collage, or you could journal your daily thoughts and ideas.

Birdwatching

There’s no better tonic for a technology overload than spending time in nature. Most of us know of the physical and psychological benefits of fresh air and greenery, yet we spend way too much time attached to our digital devices. Reconnect with your natural surroundings by observing or photographing wild birds. If you’re a painter, you could try taking a palette and brush with you. If you’re attached to your smartphone, there are numerous birdwatching apps you can download and use.

One of the best things about this hobby is that it can be undertaken alone or as part of a group or club. So whether it’s solitude or social interaction you need, birdwatching has you covered.

Canning and Preserving

As well as being inexpensive and good for the soul, learning to preserve your food properly will save you hundreds of dollars each year. Think about all the fruits and vegetables you throw away or leave to spoil in your refrigerator. You can also make cheap, tasty gifts for family and friends this way (who doesn’t love a jar of homemade jam?). Check out your local thrift store for a book on preserving foods, or search the internet for a handy blog you can follow.

Learning an Unusual Instrument

Learning an instrument teaches discipline and keeps your brain active. It’s a wonderful outlet for stress or emotional difficulties, too. Plus, what with the number of online resources these days, it’s easier than ever to learn to play.

Choose whichever instrument draws you in, but don’t rule out more obscure options like the ukelele or tuba. You could always try a few before settling on one. You could even turn your new hobby into a moneymaking opportunity if you’re happy to play gigs.

Watching Documentaries

If it’s knowledge you crave, becoming a documentary enthusiast will broaden your mind and fill your evenings. You could work through the educational titles on Netflix, or research a particular historical, geographic or political subject. You could even start a blog to record your findings or write them down in a learning journal.

Try That New Hobby Today!

Whether your passion is sport, creativity, music, or all three, choosing any one of these eight hobbies will keep your body healthy and your brain happy. What better way to round off the year than trying something new? You never know, your new pastime could lead to a lifelong passion or a future career.
