4 Ways Service Dogs Can Help People with Disabilities

Reviews · November 13, 2017

Service dogs began as invaluable aids to those who needed constant assistance. They can be used in a variety of situations and can assist and enrich the lives of disabled people in many ways. In this article, we’re going to show a few ways service dogs can help people with disabilities. We’re going to focus on the most common and demonstrated benefits first.

Guide Dogs

Guide dogs have been in use for decades, if not longer. These are the dogs we see regularly helping people safely cross the street. They may serve as replacement eyes or ears for their owners. Hearing alert dogs don’t react to every sound. They alert the owner in response to specific sounds like a crying baby, doorbell, telephone, approaching person, or home alarm.

General Service Dogs

Assistance dogs for psychiatric patients provide a source of emotional support and often a sense of protection. This is, unfortunately, the area where many people have abused the prohibition on pets in buildings to label their pets as service animals for psychiatric conditions like anxiety and PTSD. Properly trained service dogs focus on the owner. They don’t dart around the person but walk with them.

They remain by the owner, providing support or assistance as required. Even service dogs can be removed from a building if they create a hygiene problem (pooping in a restaurant) or safety hazard (growling at other patrons). If this is a concern in your facility, you can toilet train your dog using training pads from Our Pet Spot.

Mobility Service Dogs

Mobility service dogs exist to improve the mobility of someone with limited mobility. It is as simple as that. They may help pull a wheelchair or help an elderly person with limited coordination assistance in standing. Such dogs are trained to brace the person, whether getting up from a wheelchair or getting up after falling. They may fetch items on command, so the person doesn’t have to get up and get it. Some of them can open the door for the owner or retrieve medication.

Advance Warning Service Dogs

One of the benefits of service dogs is their ability to monitor the owner and signal for assistance. A service dog can often detect an oncoming seizure or narcolepsy attack and warn the owner. They are often able to detect such events several minutes in advance and communicate it clearly. This allows the owner to get into a safe place or safe position.

They can stand next to a person having a seizure, clearly communicating that the person is disabled and should be assisted. For those with migraines, the dog’s ability to detect and warn of a migraine so the human can take medication is the difference between managing the condition in the early stages and suffering for hours.

Conclusion

As you can see, service dogs can be of great help for people who are physically limited. If you think you or someone you know could benefit from one, you should definitely consider the option.

Low Maintenance Pet: Becoming A Labradoodle Lover

Reviews · November 8, 2017

Whether you build up an affinity for pets when you’re young or simply want a new friend in your life, a dog is one of the best things in life. It would be great to come home after work and see their face, tongue hanging out, tail wagging and ready to greet you with affection. Not only does a dog improve our daily life when it comes to stress levels, but they can also give us a reason to live better lives. Whether it’s going for a walk in the park or playing fetch, we can become more physically active when we have a little friend to give us the motivation we need to make a real change. However, if it’s the first time, you should look at a dog, that is low maintenance and doesn’t require a lot of upkeep to make sure it is living a happy life. This is important because you’re adjusting to an animal and not a person, even though the personalities might be just as big.

Walks and play

Taking the little guy on walks is one of the best activities of the day. However, there are some dogs which need to go on walks twice a day at least. If they don’t, they get anxious and restless, leading them to bite on furniture. This can wreak havoc for your living room and dining area. Anything from the sofa, to the tables and chairs you use to eat dinner on, will be chewed up and completely wrecked. A labradoodle, however, is very nonchalant and has a fun and playful attitude, and yet doesn’t have such high characteristics of liveliness. In other words, even though the dog does like to play the normal fun games other dogs do, it doesn’t have those needs to stick to a walking routine or feel the need to go and patrol his or her territory.

Clean up

As you will have already guessed, a labradoodle is a mix of labrador and poodle. This means the fur is going to be wavy and curly, and yet, it’s rather short. This leads to less shedding and is on a list of dogs that don’t shed. A pure labrador will shed as most other dogs will. This usually happens around autumn and spring times, as the dog needs to grow a thicker coat for the cold and then shed it for the warmer months ahead. There are of course other dogs that don’t shed either, but most of them will be a little on the small to medium size. A labradoodle is great for first-time owners as it isn’t too large or small. You get a good taste of what it would be like to own many other dogs. And, due to the furry friend not shedding, the clean up is vastly cut short.

A great pet for anyone looking to add a new friend in their life, without turning the house upside down when trying to clean up after it. A labradoodle is cut, cuddly and doesn’t need to be babysat in order to keep it from growing restless.

Your Precious #Cat Deserves Premium Products

Reviews · October 10, 2017

Many pet owners today are concerned about pet products that are not healthy or safe for their beloved pet. Pet owners wanting to get popular veterinarian approved pet supplies can easily find what they need online. This easy purchase option allows pet owners to browse better pet foods, toys, medicine and treats in the privacy of their own homes. These online pet supply stores can be quickly accessed with a computer. This online vet product shop saves consumers valuable time and expensive fuel costs, as their purchases will be mailed directly to their homes.

Cats need certain nutrients to stay healthy. Cat owners should follow the recommendations of cat associations and their veterinarians advice when choosing a proper food product for their feline. Veterinarian colleges have wonderful studies on cat’s nutritional needs for optimum health. Like their forebears, domestic cats should ingest mostly animal products since cats are considered carnivores. They should not have a lot of fat or unnecessary additives in their regular diets. It is recommended that cats get their nutritional needs met by their diet, as giving cats supplements at home can be dangerous. Cat owners should buy cat food recommended by their local vets.

Cats need lots of exercise to stay lean and fit. There are some easy-to-use cat toy recommendations from vets that encourage cat activity and cat-owner bonding. Give your cats safe toys that a vet has approved. Sometimes the simplest cat toys get the most beneficial result. Fishing toys encourage pouncing and is a fun game for owners to play with their beloved feline. Other great toys are those that keep a cat occupied, stimulating their brains while encouraging movement. Some owners like the laser beams for cats. It is important to follow safety tips when using. Never shine the beams directly into either human or cat eyes. This play option allows an owner to shine the beam on something farther away, so cats have to run farther distances.

Many cat owners are sold on using cat treats. Their cats just love getting these tasty tidbits. It is critical to only use vet approved treats, since many store bought cat treats have too many unsafe or unhealthy additives. It is a good idea to shop where a veterinarian would approve of. This ensures that the cat treats will be of recommended standards. Also, ask your veterinarian for advice on how often to give your cats treats. Even healthy treats can be detrimental if the cat is given too much. With your vets instructions, a cat owner cans search the online vet approved cat stores to find the perfect cat treat brand.

There are certain medications for cats that are better obtained through your veterinarian or by visiting a store online that sells the medicines that are the same as can be gotten from the vet’s office. Buying online can save customers money. Plus, this shopping method is much more convenient. Always have your cat checked by your vet if the cat seems ill or the cat’s condition changes.

When cat owners realize that they can buy cat food online that rivals what the vet’s office recommends, they are amazed. They can also order cat treats, medicine and toys. Online shopping for premium cat products saves money.

How To Make Living With A Cat Easier

Reviews · October 9, 2017

Living with a cat sounds easy, but it can actually be quite frustrating at times. That’s why it’s worth educating yourself on what you can do to improve your living situation. They’re a big responsibility and will typically beg for your attention constantly.

Some people give cats a bad reputation, when really they’re friendly and snuggly most of the time. A lot of times it’s what the owner’s doing or not doing that makes the situation worse. Establish boundaries early and show them who’s boss, so they don’t try to run your house. See how to make living with a cat easier.

Clean Often

You won’t be as upset with your cat who sheds if you clean the place more. Make a schedule and follow it, so your house stays looking nice. Get out the vacuum, dust and lint roll furniture and clothes on a regular basis. This is also a good time to groom your pet and make sure they’re being brushed and taken care of consistently. You’ll see that they’re not so bad when fur isn’t flying around the house.

Protect your Cat

Be protective of your cat by not letting them out of the house when they’re not being watched and applying Advecta 2 to keep fleas away. Eliminate and control pests from your pet with this product. It’s a fragrance-free formula that acts fast. Be smart and adamant about your pet’s health. They’re counting on you to keep them safe and functioning at their best. Inspect your cat often and bring them to the vet as recommended. Consider putting an enclosure outside where they can walk around, instead of letting them run loose.

Consider getting two Cats

If your cat’s acting strange or no longer shows an interest in you, it may be because they’re bored and unhappy. Solve the problem quickly by getting another cat they can play with. They’ll instantly become companions and will have each other to play with when you’re not around. Most cats are particularly social and enjoy living together. Make sure there are areas for both of them to sit and watch the commotion outside. If more than one cat lives in your home, it’s appropriate to have several litterboxes throughout the space.

Provide Space

Be sure to show your cat where their space is and what’s appropriate for them to jump up on. Provide toys and places for them to hide and sleep. Do this or face the consequences of them thinking they can have access to the entire house and go wherever they want. Be strict and don’t let them walk all over you in the beginning or you’ll be paying for it later on. Give each other space, and there shouldn’t be any issues.

Conclusion

Living with a cat sounds simple until you’re the owner. Don’t let them walk all over you or wreck your home. Take charge from the start. This is how to make living with a cat easier.

Do You Know How To Put Your Dog’s Health First?

So you’ve got a dog – yay! Whether you’re a new dog owner or have always had these beauties, you should know that keeping them happy and healthy should be your main concern. As cute, fluffy and smiley as they may appear, don’t take that as a sign that they’re healthy. Dogs need check ups at the vets just like we need them at the doctors, to make sure our bodies are running how they should. There are many things that you may not when it comes to looking after your dog.

If you want to know what – keep on reading.

Super foods

There are certain foods out there that are exceptionally good for your dog. These things help keep your pup fit and healthy, preventing any future problems and improves their bodily functions. The best super foods are chicken, turkey, eggs, mackerel, yogurt, spinach, kale, sweet potato, carrots, apple, raspberries and blackberries. If you include a small portion of a few of these different foods every day, you will have one happy puppy.

Dangerous foods

Now you know the good foods, it’s important to know the bad ones too. Never let your dog get in contact with chocolate, grapes, raisins, macadamia nuts, caffeine, seeds, fruit pips, leeks, onions, alcohol or cooked bones. They can eat up becoming very sick, or even choking.

Eating alone

One way a lot of dog owners go wrong is giving their pup their food, and standing around watching or stroking them while they eat. Even if they do allow it, they don’t like it. Dogs prefer to eat in peace, not socially. You are the alpha because you’re the owner, right? So if you don’t leave them in peace to eat, they’ll be on the edge most likely waiting for you to steal their food off them. This means they may rush instead of taking their time, which isn’t any good for the digestive system.

Ticks and fleas

Ticks are horrible blood-sucking critters that fill themselves up on your dog’s blood and cause them quite a bit of grief. The same goes for fleas, but these reproduce 600 fleas within one month, leaving your dog totally infested with them. The best flea treatment for dogs can be from pills, spot on, creams and shampoos. Speak to your local vet and see what treatment they suggest is best for your dog.

Leave their bed

Your dog will want a warm and cuddly place to sleep in, and you need to make sure that you have everything that they’ll need like a bed, blanket and some teddys to snuggle with. Whatever you do though, don’t keep making your dog’s bed – even if it looks messy – that’s how they want it to look. You may see your dog circling the bed a few times before they get comfortable. This is just how we make our own beds. Mess with that, and they won’t want to rest there anymore.
