Life can present challenges both mentally and physically. However, if you take care of your body and mind, you improve the odds of sustaining a healthy and fruitful life.
Get Enough Sleep
If you currently have young children at home, you know all about long nights and the lack of sleep. You also know how you feel the following morning — groggy and in a fog. When you deprive your body of sleep often, you lose the ability to function properly. You can’t concentrate, you become forgetful and you basically go through the day in a haze. Unfortunately, when you drive a car under these conditions, you may not see a bad driver, until it’s too late. Under normal circumstances, you would avoid the accident, but today is not a normal day. The good news is that your injuries while substantial will heel over time. And, there are law firms who can help you seek retribution for your injuries, click here for more information.
Move Your Body
Your body is a wonderful machine that lets you do the things you love. However, if you neglect it, it will begin to show signs of a breakdown. In order to maintain a lean muscle mass and a healthy weight, you need to exercise at least 3 to 4 times weekly. You can join a gym, swim, ride your bike or take a morning jog. In addition to physical exercise, it’s also important to keep your body in motion. When you run errands, park the car a little further away from the entrance and then instead of moping along, pick up the pace and move quickly. By doing this you’ll burn extra calories and re-energize your body and mind.
Maintain a Healthy Weight
While exercise will keep your body mass lean and strong, it won’t reduce your weight unless you combine your workout with a healthy diet. Just as when you were younger, the food pyramid still holds true. Eat your fruits and vegetables, lean meats, fish, eggs, whole grains and healthy fats. If you feel hungry during the day grab an apple instead of the candy bar. This way, instead of getting a jolt of energy and then the crash, you’ll have the energy to last throughout the day.
Processed foods are high in unhealthy fats, salts, and sugar, all of which are bad. And, if you consume them on a daily basis, it’s not long before you develop pockets of fat and start to have medical problems. Obesity is dangerous. And, a part of the problem is that fast-food restaurants have over-sized portions. When preparing meals at home, weigh the portions first so that you know the exact amount of calories you consume. It won’t be long before you notice the number on the bathroom scale going in the opposite direction.
More Water Please
Water is something your body needs every day. While you can get some of it through other beverages, it’s not anywhere near the amount you require. Water does so many good things like assisting with bowel movements, liver and kidney functions, circulation and your saliva. It also keeps you hydrated, important during an intense workout or if you are out in the elements. A great way to make sure you get the right amount is to use a travel bottle and refill it 4 or 5 times daily.
De-Stress
For many people, life is very hectic. They barely have a minute to themselves. If this sounds like you, it’s time to reclaim your life and de-stress. No one person can do it all for any length of time without having a mental breakdown. Learn how to delegate duties at work and home and start doing something that makes you happy. Even, if you only take a half-hour each day to catch up on your favorite television series, it will help to relax you.
You have the opportunity to experience a happy and healthy life. All you have to do is modify your current habits and incorporate new healthier ways to live.

A healthy positive attitude helps build a healthier immune system and boosts overall health. Your body believes what you think, so focus on the positive.

Although these are common sense, they can be ones that are overlooked, or devalued in some people’s mind, instead looking for something “big” or “magical.” I do try to do all of these, hope it has helped!!

I agree that these are all important and I really need to work on getting enough sleep.

These are all great points! And there are so many other things that one might add to it– I think that this is a great thing, because we have all different kinds of ways of getting and staying healthy. One that I would add is to surround oneself, or try to be around, people who make us feel good and put us in a positive mood. 🙂
