Listen Up! Taking Care Of Your Hearing

Reviews · August 15, 2018

There are times when we can’t prevent hearing loss. In fact, the majority of people will experience some decline in the quality of their hearing the older they get. However, there are a few instances of hearing loss that can be prevented. For instance, deafness that comes about after listening to very loud music for long periods of time is completely avoidable.

Here are a few things that you can do to take care of your hearing and to try and prevent avoidable deafness.

Pexel

Stay Away From Loud Noises

It’s always best to stay away from any very loud environments. However, that isn’t always possible, but at least there are some preventative measures you can take to look after your ears. If you work with loud machinery or in a similarly loud environment, you should always wear ear protection. In fact, your boss or employer should provide you with these. Another loud environment that can be problematic is a music concert. If you enjoy seeing your favorite band play live, you should always wear earplugs or else you might develop tinnitus.

Don’t Clean With Cotton Buds

Keeping your ears clean is also really important as this can prevent an excessive buildup of earwax. However, make sure you don’t ever try to clean your ears with cotton buds. Even though these little buds may have been designed with ears in mind, they can actually be quite dangerous. It’s easy to push them too far inside the ear canal and cause damage, such as a burst eardrum. Instead of using cotton buds, simply clean the inside of your ear with a soft, damp cloth.

Get Checkups Regularly

It is also important to get an ear and hearing check up on a regular basis. Ideally, this should be carried out once a year, but you might need to increase the frequency as you start to age. During the checkup, your doctor can advise you on any potential issues that you might need to be aware of. If you do show signs of some hearing loss already, he can also inform you of the best hearing aid for the money and any other treatments that could be beneficial to you. He’ll also be able to answer any questions that you may have about your hearing.

Watch Out When Listening To Music

You also need to be extra careful if you enjoy listening to music, especially if you regularly listen to it on the go through your headphones. Firstly, make sure that you don’t accidentally push your headphones too far into your ears. If you do, they may cause some damage. Secondly, be sure to keep the volume down on your headphones. Listening to loud music through headphones is another common cause of tinnitus and other hearing issues.

As you can see, there are plenty of preventative measures when it comes to hearing loss. It’s good to start using them now so that you can continue to enjoy good hearing and ear health well into the future!

Bad Mood Busters (In The Home)

Reviews · August 10, 2018

So, you’re having a bad day. It happens and it’s the worst. No matter how much you try to channel the good vibes, you can’t seem to snap out of the funk. What you need are stimulants, aids which help you speed up the process. And, there is no better place to look than inside your home. Yep, you don’t even need to leave the premises to start feeling jolly. All you need to do is to continue reading to find out what the bad mood busters are. Then, you can use them anytime you get down or feel blue.

Here’s what you need to know.

Eat Chocolate

Hollywood has had it wrong for many years. People going through breakups shouldn’t eat cartons of ice-cream but a handful of pieces of chocolate. Contrary to popular belief, cocoa isn’t unhealthy. In fact, the cocoa bean is full of antioxidants and anti-inflammatories which help to regulate the body. Also, they contain toxins which stimulate opioid production. Don’t worry because you won’t get addicted. What you will experience is a shot of euphoria which will make you feel better about life in general. However, it has to be dark choc as it contains the most concentration of cocoa. Everything else is too sugary.

Plug-In An Air Freshener

Smells and your mood is directly linked. For example, a certain aroma may take you back to a simpler, less depressing time. Or, it may remind you of a time when you laughed and joked and saw the world in a different light. Either way, both memories encourage you to smile and they are brought on by smells. Devices on www.AromatechScent.com allow you to personalize scents and waft them around the home. Or, another option is to light scented candles. As well as the smell, you’ll get to relax in a peaceful atmosphere and de-stress according to https://litupcandleco.com.

Pick Flowers

It’s summertime, which means the garden is full of vibrant colors. To boost your mood, you want to take them from the exterior of your home and bring them inside. Why? The first thing to note is the shades. Usually, the yellows and reds and organs and purples are hues which are synonymous with happiness. Plus, it’s nice to include color if the home is a little dark and depressing. Also, plants take in CO2 and release oxygen. Therefore, they’ll be a steady flow of O2 so that the brain doesn’t get tired or fatigued.

Jump Around

A funk is typically due to boredom. There you are, sat in the house doing nothing and the bad mood sets in like a rain cloud in the winter. You need to get the blood pumping and the muscles working, yet you can’t be bothered to move. No reason to fret because you can do it in the house. All you need to do is start jumping around. Run up the stairs, for example, or crack out a few jumping jacks. Before long, the endorphins running through your veins will increase your happiness.

Are you willing to try all of the above to get out of a funk?

It’s Time To Give Your Property Some Character

Reviews · August 7, 2018

There’s more to creating the perfect home than contemporary design. The aesthetic of your house matters, of course, but modernity isn’t enough. When you move into a brand new home, for instance, it can feel a little sterile and devoid of any personality. It might look shiny and impressive, but it’s missing that sense of character which makes a house feel warm and welcoming. The same goes for a home that’s become old and neglected. It might be a cozy place that’s full of memories, but clutter and a worn-out aesthetic have both made your house lose its comfort factor. It’s time to give your property some character, whether it’s old or brand new.

Prioritise homeliness.

The first step to giving your property some character is to prioritise homeliness. You should feel relaxed and happy in your own home. In fact, it should be the one place in the world that always feel comfortable. You (and your family) have complete control over the way your house looks and feels, so you need to utilize that opportunity. Start with the living room. This is a space that should feel warm and homely. You might want to check out flooring at carpetone.com.au for carpet options that are both cozy and stylish. Every small detail makes a difference when it comes to making your house feel vibrant and inviting.

In terms of aesthetic, you could even create some handmade art pieces with your family to hang on the walls of each room in your house. This was suggested over at housebeautiful.com. Once you start to personalize the design of your home, it’ll really start to gain some character. After all, interior design is much more striking when it feels unique and specific to the house in question. Don’t just fill your home with the typical furnishings and paintings that you’d find in a standard showhome. Get creative with your house’s design. Make it specific to your tastes and preferences. That’s how it’ll start to feel homely; its character should reflect your character.

Use nature in your interior design.

Another way to give your property some character is to use nature in your interior design. Manmade design can be extravagant and unique, but it works best when combined with the beauty of natural design. As we’ve suggested before, you might want to use plants to really lift the aesthetic of your house. Some flowers and plants in each room of the house could really give the place some character; it’ll make your home look brighter and more appealing. It’ll lift your mood whenever you walk into a room. Plus, plants freshen the air, so they’ll make you feel better as the result of more than just their appearance.

Make your garden bright and beautiful.

Your garden can really add some character to your property too. You should plant some new flowerbeds and maybe even create a pond in the center of the garden as a nice focal point. As mentioned over at viralnova.com, you can also reinvent your garden by finding new uses for things such as neglected tree stumps; you could grow flowers on it. The same goes for the old watering can that’s been sitting on the patio for months or the wheelbarrow gathering dust in the garage. Nature, as mentioned in the previous point, can do wonders to add some character to your garden. Go beyond simply mowing the lawn – make this space into a captivating outdoor paradise. When you’re “giving your property some character” this is not just inside your house, this is also your garden. Decorating your garden to be a bit more modern is becoming very popular, something like these corner sheds, would be a great investment.

Bringing An Elderly Parent To Stay: Can You Do It?

Reviews · July 30, 2018

It’s easy to forget that elderly parents won’t alway have their independence. Eventually, many elderly individuals will reach the point where they can no longer cope without help. This could be due to a mental or physical decline. Don’t forget, as you age, the chances of developing conditions like Alzheimer’s increase while the body gets weaker. When you’re young, you can recover from a broken leg in weeks. When you are over seventy, it will take months, and the pain or discomfort will last for years. Your leg may never return to its original condition. You can see then why your parents will need help and support. But where will they turn to get it?

Full-Time care is an option in a residential home. Or, alternatively, you could be thinking about bringing an elderly parent to live with you. This can be a rewarding experience, allowing you to give back to your parent, helping them keep their independence and ensuring that they are comfortable. However, it’s also a lot of work, a heavy commitment and a massive life change. You need to be prepared.

Are You Emotionally Ready?

Don’t forget, once you make this decision you will typically be moving away from your role as a daughter or son and moving towards the position of carer. That’s not necessarily a bad thing, but it is a massive commitment. You do need to think about whether you can handle this. Remember, the way your parent views you will change. You will have to make the tough choices, deciding when they should and shouldn’t have full independence. This can be frustrating and may lead to volatile situations.

You can avoid this by hiring a full-time live-in carer. This will also allow you to have more control of your personal life and spare time, so it is certainly worth considering.

Is Your Home Set Up Correctly?

The next step is to make sure that your home is set up the right way. You need to make sure that it is both safe and indeed comfortable for your parent. Ideally, you do want to make sure that there are facilities both up and downstairs. You may also need to think about adding railings to the bathroom, hand bars and potentially a stair lift as well. If your parent is in a wheelchair, ramps may also be beneficial.

Of course, comfort is a top consideration too. It’s crucial that your elderly parent has their own space in your home and that they don’t feel like a guest. You also need to invest in specialist furniture such as the aged care tables you would find in a care home. These are the right height and design for elderly individuals.

Get The Family Ready

Finally, don’t forget that this change won’t just affect your life. It will alter the life of your entire family. Once again, you need to be prepared. Make sure that everyone is on board and understands the change. Let children know why this happening and what their role will be in this scenario. If everyone knows their place, you can make the transition far easier.

We hope this helps you deal with the decision to bring your elderly parent to live with you.

Keeping Up With The Jones’s? Here’s How To Outdo The Jones’s!

Neighbourhood rivalries are often very silly, and will always be mocked. Why compete when you can come together as a community? However, if everyone admitted it to themselves, they would say that they secretly practice it, in small ways. The most obvious example is Christmas. Many streets seem to wish to outdo one another in order to appear the most curated home, the most beautiful with the most gorgeous decorations. Some houses decide to go overboard, and these aren’t hard to spot.

However, is there some utility in the idea of ‘keeping up with the Joneses?’ Could it actually help you? Of course, when it’s tongue in cheek. Real life decoration battles are silly and odd to invest your time into. However, there’s no shame in wanting to live in the most beautiful house of your street. To do that, and to enable these silly but ultimately rewarding feeling, consider these tips to help your home stand out above all:

Curb Appeal

The curb appeal of your property really matters. This is the first impression that anyone walking past will see, but more importantly it’s the first impression you will see when first coming upon the house. This is why it is so essential for you to make this look the way you most desire. A great way to do this is to consider the lead up garden to your front door.

Is it well maintained? Are the bushes well trimmed and parallel with one another, or chaotic and artsy? Is your garden path well maintained or cracked and in need of repair? How does this area look at night? Dark, or with beautiful luminescent lamps slowly lighting the way? Making your home look inviting with the use of light, colour and texture can help you not only have the most beautiful and curated garden space of your street, but it will actually increase your property value to a degree you might not have imagined.

Garden Features

Back garden features can be everything to a beautiful green space. It might be that implementing plenty of new garden features could be quite pricey, such as replacing garden furniture, rectifying a shed, opting for higher quality fencing among many other considerations to make. For this reason it might be worth sustaining an operational budget, or gaining items on credit for now while in the effort to improve credit scores.

This might mean making your garden more lively by purchasing items for your children, or many other artsy features that help you get out into the green space and working with your creative ambition. A back garden is best when it’s alive and lived in during the day.

Window Arches

Windows arches say plenty about your home and how it should be viewed. Are they well maintained or is the paint chipped? Is the pain all one theme or multiple? Does the design fit with your front, back or side doors? Consider repainting, replacing or repairing window arches, as they are often the first telltale sign of a property that is less than well maintained.

With these simple tips, outdoing the Joneses will become a matter of hobby, so that you needn’t worry about the entire affair again. You’ll be too busy enjoying your beautiful home for that.
