How to Better Manage Chronic Pain

Reviews · May 26, 2018

Chronic pain can be incredibly difficult. Not only are you physically not at your best, you also have to deal with the stress, frustration, and pain associated with your injury. Prescription painkillers can be dangers to take to help manage this pain as well. They last a brief period of time and your body builds up immunity to them, meaning you need to take them more often and at higher dosages. This means that they are altogether too easy to become addicted to. This addiction to prescription medication is incredibly common, and the side effects could make your situation worse. That is why you need to find alternative means to manage your chronic pain:

Chiropractic Therapy

If your chronic pain occurred after an accident or injury, going through chiropractic therapy should be your first move. Very often we feel pain because something has been misaligned or our muscles are in some way compromised. Chiropractors are certified in realigning your joints and helping you get back to your old self. This works for old injuries and fresh ones like whiplash. If you have not yet tried chiropractic therapy to help you manage your injury, book an appointment today. Do remember to follow their advice and at-home exercises and stretches to make the most out of your treatment.

Low-Impact Exercises

When you face chronic pain, the best thing to do is to keep moving. By staying sedentary you actually encourage your body to lock up, making it harder to move and more painful to move as a result. You won’t want to aggravate your injury, which is why low-impact sports are your best bet. These sports are soft on the joints and encourage movement and flexibility. Examples include swimming and even yoga.

Massages

When in doubt, treat yourself to a massage to help ease your pain. When you are injured or suffer with chronic pain, this affects the other areas of your body as well. This happens because pain causes stress, which in turn leads to muscle contractions and tensing. This can lead to muscle knots and tension that can exacerbate the pain and make it worse. Going for massages is a great way to release these tensions and to treat yourself while you are at it.

CBD Oil

If you live in a state where marijuana is legal, consult your doctor about trying CBD oil to help you manage the pain. CBD oil does not produce any high, and instead helps you relax and manage pain. Learn more about this particular oil and its benefits, and how it could help you manage your chronic pain without prescription medication.

There is no right way to manage your pain, but there are ways that will also hurt you in the process. Over 2 million Americans are already addicted to opiates that were prescribed to them by their doctor. It is a short-term solution that has minimal impact in the long run. Find alternative solutions and ways to stay active and mobile despite your pain, and don’t give up.

Top Health Tips For Busy Entrepreneurs

Reviews · May 11, 2018

As a business leader, you’re always busy. Whether you’re working for a startup or a small business, or you’re a freelancer who’s constantly making connections with new clients, it feels like you’re always busy. Usually, that’s a good thing. After all, when nothing’s going on, that doesn’t mean the best for your business. But never stopping to take a breath or to take stock of your physical or emotional health can have devastating consequences not only for you but your business, too.

Whether you’re a dropshipping supplier or run an environmentally-friendly printer’s shop, health comes first. So if you’re ready to change your busy entrepreneur lifestyle, and make a little room for health in it, remember to follow these tips.

1 Remember to sleep

Yes, we know. Sleeping is, ironically, your worst nightmare. Not only does it take a lot of time away from your business–seven to nine hours is a lot to lose when it comes to making money–but you probably have a lot of trouble falling asleep in the first place. For some reason, all the best ideas seem to come to you late at night, just as you’re finally shutting your eyes. But that doesn’t matter. The fact is, sleep is essential.

In fact, according to the Harvard Business Review, “In a separate study of 81 organizations and 189,000 people around the world, we found that four types of leadership behavior are most commonly associated with high-quality executive teams: operating with a strong orientation to results, solving problems effectively, seeking out different perspectives, and supporting others. What’s striking in all four cases is the proven link between sleep and effective leadership.” So if you were losing sleep before because you thought it was beneficial to your business–think again. It’s time to change those habits, and invest in a white noise machine.

2 Eat well and exercise

Okay, we know. It’s hard to eat well, especially when all you’re doing is taking business trips or getting drinks with potential clients at a cool club downtown. But unfortunately, we live in a world where people are taken less seriously if they don’t look in a suit or pantyhose, being unhealthy is dangerous in two ways. For one thing, it will impact how you feel (and how you look). For another, it will impact how you’re seen in the business community. Hopefully one day this will change, but for now, if you take your career seriously, eating well can be key to making that next partnership or locking in that next deal.

We know, however, that it can be hard to make time for eating well. That’s why it’s so important to use technology. Take the app MyFitnessPal, for example, an alternative to calorie-counting. According to pocket-lint.com, MyFitnessPal “is a free calorie counting app that features a food database of over 5 million foods…The app…creates a custom plan for you, providing you with a calorie goal to work towards, which appears on the top of the diary page where you add your food, exercise, and water intake. As you add, you’ll see the food calories being deducted and the exercise calories added, so it’s easy to keep track.”

Don’t forget to be healthy with your relationship to food, too. It’s easy to overeat anytime you’re stressed, or feeling guilty about losing family time because of your job. And remember: if you do slip up, don’t beat yourself up more. Instead, you can focus on exercising to feel better. Using an app like ClassPass or Fit30 means that you can make time for exercise even with the busiest of schedules.

3 Spend some time with people you love, doing what you love

Most importantly, don’t forget to spend quality time with the people you love. Whether it’s spending Saturday with your family on a hike or getting a drink with your best friends on a Friday night, this will distract you from all your worries and remind you of the importance of personal connections. Especially if you’re starting a new business, it can be easy to lose sight of this. But remember: work is the top cause of stress in the US, so you need to get away from it sometimes. No matter how hard you want to be working.

If you find it hard to pull yourself away, try some of these techniques from Lifehack.

By following these tips, you’ll be healthier than ever, no matter how busy you are. Which of these health tips do you think will be most challenging to follow? How do you plan on facing that challenge?

5 HEALTH TIPS FOR SENIOR CITIZENS

Reviews · April 11, 2018

You may find out that you are no longer as fit and nimble as you would like to be. Your eyesight is not as sharp as it used to be. Age is definitely catching up with you. You know this because tasks that were previously easy to do become increasingly difficult.

Aging comes with a host of its own issues. You feel tired more frequently, your body weakens, and you are more vulnerable to diseases. You can age gracefully by taking care of your mind and body; this will improve the quality of your life and prolong the onset of age-related medical complications.

Maintain a healthy body weight

You begin experiencing muscle loss once you hit the age of 40 and you will start getting soft especially around your midsection. It is then easier for your body weight to balloon with fat taking a bigger proportion of it at the expense of muscle mass.

To arrest this phenomenon and slow down muscular degeneration, elderly people need to double their protein intake to build and keep their muscles.

Maintaining a healthy body weight will keep away a litany of diseases like hypertension, stroke, and diabetes, many of which are exacerbated with being overweight.

Don’t neglect your mental health

Mental health is as important as physical health. As such you must keep your mental faculties in tip-top condition. Keep your brain active by reading, doing crossword puzzles and basically anything that works out your brain.

Keep yourself busy and be well informed on the current affairs from news sources (view site). Have storytelling sessions with your kids and if possible, have some form of social interaction with your peers if your kids stay far away. This will jog your memory and keep conditions such as dementia at bay.

Minimize the stress in your life

Stress affects both your physical and mental wellness. Stress increases your blood pressure which in turn leads to increased risk of cardiac arrest or stroke. Worse still, it may lead you into unhealthy coping mechanisms like binge eating and drinking. These habits will deteriorate your health.

For your mental health, stress makes it hard to focus and can result into memory lapses and even memory loss.

It is therefore important to identify the causes of stress in your life and find healthy ways of managing them.

Exercise regularly

Regular exercise increases blood flow to the brain and helps in maintaining a healthy body weight. This strengthens your bones and reduces the risk of developing dementia. It is however important to consult with your physician before engaging in any strenuous physical activity.

Strength training can help senior citizens slow down the inevitable loss of muscle mass that comes with age. There are less intensive exercise that are still of much benefit like dancing. Dancing requires motor coordination which requires the full functioning of the brain besides also being a physical activity.

Quit smoking and excessive drinking

Smoking hardens your arteries in addition to putting you at a greater risk of lung and mouth cancer. With hardened arteries, you are in the path of developing serious cardiovascular diseases.

At an advanced age, your body can no longer handle the alcohol as it used to. Your hangovers become worse and you take more time to recover. Additionally, alcohol affects the natural enzyme balance in your stomach affecting digestion and might even result into ulcers.

7 ways to ensure you’re getting the best deal when starting a new sport

Reviews · July 19, 2017

In the pursuit of health and happiness, sport can play a big part. Getting involved in physical activities can help to release endorphins that will immediately raise your spirits. Enjoying a sport will give you the opportunity to lose weight, improve muscle tone, strengthen your respiratory system, and increase your flexibility. Not only this, but sport can often provide a great opportunity to interact with other likeminded individuals and to escape the pressures of day to day life. If you are interested in starting a new sport, it is important that the cost of doing so does not put you off. You can’t put a price on the end results of being active, but in the early stages you may find yourself resenting any strain on your finances. Below are seven ways to avoid this. Instead they will help you to engage with the world of sport whilst getting the best deal for your money.

Try before you buy

A good way to ensure that you are investing your money in the right place is trying out clubs or classes before you sign up permanently. If there is a specific sport or activity that you are interested in, try to find some free classes in your local area. Even if you eventually hope to advance to a class that requires payment, a free trial is a good indication of whether or not you are well suited to the sport. It is also worth finding out whether there are any gyms near to you that offer a trial membership. It is common for gyms to offer a trial period of around a month to prospective clients. Alternatively, some gyms require you to sign up first, but offer the first month’s membership free. If you find yourself visiting the gym regularly, you can remain a member. If not, you can cancel your membership and try something else. You should also look out for gift vouchers and discount codes that can be applied to exercise classes, exercise equipment, or gym memberships. If you have a celebration coming up, make sure that your friends and family know that is something you would be interested in.

Consider where you are purchasing your equipment from

When you are starting a new sport, it is easy to go all out when purchasing new equipment. Don’t just splash the cash at your local store. Instead, make sure to shop around and weigh up all of your options. Firstly, there are lots of benefits to purchasing your sports equipment online. You will have a much wider range of options, and it will be much easier and quicker to compare prices. If you are someone who enjoys the personal touch, you could always try visiting a store for advice and then go online afterwards to actually purchase the equipment. You could also read online reviews of products or watch YouTube videos that review them. Secondly, you could look at second-hand stores. This is a great way to find equipment at discount prices. A really savvy shopper will check the second-hand stores around February and March, as this will be the point at which many people will have given up on their New Year’s resolutions. If you manage to snatch up a bargain then, it is more likely to be a well-known brand that has barely been used. Try to have a list of brands that you are looking for, as this will help you to know what equipment is worth your money and what equipment is just a cheap alternative to your ideal sports kit.

Exercise for free or start your own club

It is important to remember the fact that often you don’t actually need to pay to exercise. Instead, there are lots of ways for you to get fit for free. If you’re not that used to being active, exercising for free is the perfect introduction to taking care of your body. You can progress from there into more expensive options, but not having to pay at first may help you to stay motivated. You could even consider starting your own exercise club with a friend, as this will introduce a social element to your workout. If you become really into your fitness, you could invite other people to join the club. This could eventually result in you making money. For instance, if you are really getting into yoga, you could consider training as an instructor and charge a small fee for your classes. Alternatively, you could suggest that all members contribute a small amount of money that you can group together to fund one professional class a week. This way you can do your free exercise throughout the week and then work on your technique at least once.

Buy in bulk

If you do decide to start a club, you may want to consider buying your sports equipment in bulk. If your kids are on any teams, this is also a great option. Often if you buy in bulk, you will reduce the overall cost of your order. If the store or website you are looking at doesn’t offer special deals for bulk orders, look around for somewhere that does. Whatever you do, don’t settle. Even if you don’t have somebody to order with, why not invest in sports equipment for the future? This way you will save money, and you will be able to have spares in case any of your equipment gets damaged. It is important to remember the exact amount of money you are paying for your sports equipment, as if you ever decide to replace your kit and want to sell it on, you will need to know what amount you can reasonably expect to receive. If you have purchased a bulk order at a discounted price, you may find that you can even make a profit through resale!

Compare your prices

If you are shopping online, it is important to compare your prices. Something may seem like a really great deal, but you will kick yourself if you see the same item being sold elsewhere for even less. Remember, when it comes to sports equipment, the initial cost isn’t the only factor to consider. Investing in a reliable and well-made piece of kit may save you money in the long run. This is why you need to weigh up your options. Many websites provide information about the options available for sports equipment. For instance, if you are interested in playing golf you can easily find out all you need to know about the best wedges 2017. By researching your options, you will be able to work out what you need to prioritize when making your purchases. If you are just dipping your toe in the water, you may want to prioritize low prices. However, if you are fully committed to a lifestyle change, you will want to find equipment that will last you as long as possible and will help you to improve in your chosen sport.

Save money on sports tickets

A fantastic way to increase your interest in a sport is by finding inspiration from the professionals. It is almost impossible not to be inspired by the sight of athletes at the top of their game. Following sport doesn’t have to be expensive, as you can also save money on tickets. If you have decided to start your own club, you could encourage other members to attend sporting events and turn it into a club tradition. If you’re not really sure about a sport, why not try attending a charity or amateur event? This way you are not throwing your money away on tickets that you might not enjoy using. However, if you do enjoy yourself, you can look at splashing out a little more. A further alternative can be found in setting up a viewing session at your house or local community hall. You can either simply use a TV, or you could find a sheet and a projector. Invite all of your friends and purchase healthy snacks. This will help to create the environment of a sporting event at minimal expense.

Whatever you do, don’t give up!

The best way to get the most out of a sport is to not give up! Make sure that you do everything in your power to truly commit. This is easier said than done, as many people struggle to stay dedicated when it comes to exercise. If you have tried and failed in the past, consider if there are any patterns to your attempts. Once you have identified the problems, begin to focus on the solutions. Understanding why you give up on exercise will help you to avoid this happening again. When you begin to notice a difference in your health and happiness, you will realize that all of your dedication has paid off. This will help to justify any and all costs you have faced along the way.

When you have a pet, your life can often feel complete. Whether you have a family dog or a cat that keeps you company, they can really add a lot of warmth, personality, and vibrancy to your home. But, as well as being a great companion and a part of the family, your pet can also require a lot from you. From feeding and cleaning to playing and petting, our furry little friends do need a lot from us to be happy. Even if you think you’re giving your pet everything it needs, these hacks should help you to ensure they’re living a healthy life.

Give Them Plenty Of Exercise

First on the agenda, exercise. Making sure that your dog or cat gets enough exercise is crucial to their health and long-term happiness. Even if your dog has a lazy personality, you need to make sure that they’re getting the minimum amount of time out walking that their breed requires. It will ensure they stay in shape. Cats are a little trickier, but if your cat is going out and about every day and not getting overweight, you can rest assured that they’re getting enough exercise.

Watch Their Diet

To also help their health, you’ll want to focus on their diet. If you buy them pet food from the store, do you know what’s in it? Do you know what the right portion size for their breed it? It’s just as important not to overfeed your pet as it is to make sure that they’re not malnourished. To keep the pounds off, make sure you’re giving them a healthy balanced diet, which can sometimes be a combination of homemade meals and pet food.

Keep Their Teeth Clean

It’s easy to forget about your pet’s teeth, but just like humans, they need taking care of too. So, you’re going to want to do what you can to keep them as clean and healthy as possible. Some treats can be used to keep plaque at bay, but if you really want to be able to keep them fresh and healthy, head to you vet for tailored advice. You might find that regular teeth cleaning could be all it takes to keep them healthy.

Look After Their Skin

Along with teeth, it’s vital that you look after both your dog or cat’s skin and their coat. You may wash them regularly and ensure that their coat is groomed, but do you know what to look out for should they get ill? Things like mange in dogs aren’t always easy to spot, especially if they don’t lose a lot of hair. But, you can treat it at home with the help of natural products like honey or yogurt. The best thing to do is check your pets regularly to ensure their skin and coat stays healthy.

Shower Them With Love

And lastly, we all know how important mental health is to keep us happy. So, you’re going to want to make sure you shower your pet with love to ensure that they’re feeling both happy and healthy. But, as a firm part of the family and your loyal companion, it’s likely that you’ve already got this hack down.
