How to Create the Perfect Guest Room

Reviews · February 15, 2019

Having friends and relatives over to stay is great fun and allows you to spend more time with the people you love. However, if you are having guests, they need somewhere comfortable and private to stay, and that means creating a guest room you’d be happy to sleep in yourself.

When you think about what a guest bedroom needs, consider all the factors that make sleeping somewhere else enjoyable. What do you like about the rooms you stay in on vacation or trips away? How could you apply these principles to your own guest bedroom and make your visitor’s stay a comfortable and happy one?

The bed is the main consideration in a guest room, and many people fall down with the bed by installing one they no longer use themselves or buying a cheap bed and mattress that won’t give anyone a good night’s sleep. You don’t need to spend a fortune on a bed, but make sure it’s comfortable enough for your guests to spend the night in.

If space is at a premium, you don’t need to resort to a camp bed or uncomfortable futon. Murphy beds are full-size beds that are hidden in a wall recess, so they aren’t in the way during the day but are easy to get out at night. They’re more comfortable and convenient than any other form of temporary bed, so well worth adding to your small guest room.

People like having a desk to sit at so they don’t have to sit on the bed if they’re working on their laptop, and it can double up as a vanity unit if you provide a good sized mirror for the desk. Make sure there’s access to sockets because your guests will probably need to charge their electronics too.

Closet space and drawers for keeping clothes and personal items makes the room seem more welcoming, rather than having to live out of a suitcase. A clock radio is handy to keep an eye on the time and to use as an alarm if needed, and a bedside lamp prevents the awkwardness of stumbling around in the dark to get back into bed after turning the main light off.

If you’re in the mood for a spot of remodeling, then an ensuite toilet or shower room will be a very welcome feature for your guests. Not having to share facilities with everyone else makes people far more relaxed as a rule, as they don’t need to worry about someone else needing the bathroom when they have a shower for example. If an ensuite isn’t feasible, are you able to allocate a bathroom to your guests? Perhaps the main bathroom could be theirs while they’re with you, and you could use your master ensuite.

The most important feature of a guest bedroom is that it should feel inviting, somewhere that’s been specially designed to keep your guests comfortable and content, so they enjoy their time with you. Lovely clean sheets, plenty of pillows, a box of tissues, and fresh flowers all add to the welcoming atmosphere and ensure your guests have a wonderful time with you.

What’s So Great About A Waterfront Home?

Uncategorized · January 21, 2019

When considering a top tier home, you kind of want the location to be just as good as the home. What better way to live life, than in a home that is luxurious and is surrounded by pristine beauty? One would be lucky to find these two hand in hand as homes that have both are rare. In comparison at least, these homes that offer a great view are always going to be more expensive. Even if you own a mansion in the heart of a city you will always find that there is something more prestigious about a home that is in the countryside. And to top that off, if your manor house is by moving water, you are almost at the jackpot of all residential properties. But what is so good about a waterfront anyway?

The inescapable fresh air

Homes in the countryside are blessed with fresh air. Suburban homes are great for space versus price but they don’t offer a lot of cool winds and uninterrupted gusts. Even some countryside homes that are surrounded by rolling hills and trees don’t offer as much. This is because for a waterfront home there is nothing stopping the breeze down or slowing it. Since it’s also above water the air is somewhat humid. Therefore it’s never really super cold either, which means that you can enjoy more time outside during different parts of the year. You would think that if the air is uninterrupted then it will be too windy but mixed with the evaporating water molecules over a lake, the air becomes thicker and the wind calms down.

Great local communities

As you can see by looking at Sotheby’s Realty, waterfront homes have unique communities. There are people who live in these large homes that are in tune with a different lifestyle. They are more laid back, easy going and don’t take life too seriously. Since you each have your own space either side of you, you each have access to your own waters just at the back of your home. So if you want to fish or go swimming, then you can do so without being interrupted. The great thing is that since you are all relatively far away from your neighbors, you also have privacy without the need for trees or hedges. Thankfully, those that own waterfront homes each have a private stretch of riverfront, so there are no disputes over access to the water.

The lifestyle

As you would expect, waterfront homes offer a totally different lifestyle. You can enjoy the water any way you want. You may wish to buy a jet ski and thunder across the water or perhaps just a small sailboat to enjoy in calm winds. Regardless of what you like, there’s a lot of opportunity for recreational activities on and around the waterfront.

Waterfront homes are some of the most sought after in all of the luxury properties markets. They offer seclusion and privacy without having to change or alter the property at all. The fresh air is something you’ll get immediately used to and value for its simplicity and joy it adds to your lifestyle.

WYZE CAM #Review #HGG18

2018 Holiday Gift Guide, Reviews · December 18, 2018

I received the below mentioned complimentary product either for free or a discounted price for the purpose of this post. All opinions and thoughts are 100% my own.

About The Product/Company~

Based in Seattle, WA, Wyze Labs was born out of the idea that high quality, easy-to-use smart home products shouldn’t break the bank. We partner with innovators and best-in-class manufacturers who share our mission and values: to create high-quality products that are easy to use and have the features customers care about at a fraction of the price. We believe that everyone should have access to great, new technology and we’re on a mission to make it happen.

Our first product, the WyzeCam, is the solution to a problem that one of our cofounders faced. He had been looking for a smart home camera to stay connected with his family with while on the road. He found that better-recognized brands were ridiculously overpriced for their quality and cheaper ones were unreliable. We believe consumers deserve better than that.

And this is just the beginning. As we grow, we will continue to launch high quality, affordable smart home products that enrich people’s lives and make great technology accessible to everyone.

Wyze Cam v2

My Review/Thoughts~

Having a smart home camera was something I never thought I would need until now. It is really sad to admit that we really do not know what is happening outside our homes. We know need  video doorbells , security cameras in our yards and our homes, nanny cams to keep an eye on the sitter and my favorite the WYZE CAM. This is the one smart home camera that does it all. I can use it outside and inside as well as use it in my backyard to keep an eye on our visiting deer. Oh how we love our wild life. I love that it has night vision and an 8x optical zoom. 2 features that we have been looking for in a smart home camera. Most others seem to come with one or the other and not both. This would make the perfect Holiday gift for yourself or anyone on your gift list.

I give the WYZE CAM my highest recommendation and my thumbs up. You can go HERE to order one for your very own or that special person on your gift list.

What To Look For When Choosing A Nursing Home For Your Parents

Reviews · December 18, 2018

The idea of choosing a nursing home for our parents is something that most of us would rather avoid talking about or even thinking about, but it’s something that oftentimes can’t and shouldn’t be avoided – especially at times when there could be safety issues or you just feel like it might be a better solution for whatever reason.

The good thing is, nursing homes have come a long way over the years and are quite far removed from what they used to be. Nowadays they’re places where the needs of residents are taken care of and they’re given individual care and attention, and where they can socialize and actually meet other people so that they don’t feel lonely like they would when being home on their own all the time.

However, not all nursing homes are great and it’s not something you should just jump right into without doing your research first. There have been many cases over the years concerning nursing homes with cases of abuse and neglect of their residents and this is certainly not something you want to subject your beloved parents to.

If you’re currently in the situation or later find yourself in the situation where you do notice things like abuse or neglect from a nursing home, then it’s important to seek legal advice to ensure the correct action is taken against the home. For example, someone like Gray and White Law can handle your legal needs in cases like this.

In this post, we’re going to share with you some things to consider when it comes to what you should look for when choosing a nursing home for your parents.

Does it have a good reputation?

Reputation is everything in business and a good company – especially one in the healthcare industry will want to ensure they have a great one if they truly care about what they do. News travels fast, so ask around and do your homework to check if the nursing home you’re considering has a good reputation.

How does it look inside?

First impressions really do count, and since nursing homes often cost quite a bit of money, it’s important that the facilities are reflective of that. If you walk into a place that’s falling apart and look like no one has touched it with a vacuum in weeks, then this can be an indicator of bad management which will spill over into the actual resident care as well.

How do the residents appear?

Take some time to visit the home you’re considering and ask to be shown around. Look at how the residents appear to be – are they left sitting in corners on their own for hours on end or are they being engaged in activities and encouraged to stay active and socialize?

Is the cost manageable?

Nursing homes aren’t the cheapest of places, but you are paying for everything your parent needs on a daily basis, so the cost is understandable. However, it’s worth considering if you can afford the cost or if it’s something that’s going to cause you to be stretched financially.

3 Tips for Keeping Your Floors Safe During a Move

Reviews · December 14, 2018

3 Tips for Keeping Your Floors Safe During a Move If you’re getting ready to move, you might be wondering how to protect your new floors before there are dozens of heavy boots stomping everywhere as people haul in boxes and furniture. Fortunately, it’s easier than you might think. Here are just a few tips for keeping your floors clean and safe as you relocate.

1. Put Down Tarps and Sheets One of the simplest ways to protect your floor is also one of the most effective. Lay down a protective barrier like a tarp or a vinyl sheet. Not only will it prevent scuff marks, but it will also provide traction for your movers that will prevent them from slipping on anything overly smooth or glossy. This can be especially helpful in a high-traffic area like the front foyer. It’s often designed for style over functionality or safety, so you’ll need to make up the lack.

2. Beware of Slippery Areas Speaking of slips, this is probably the single biggest cause of moving day mishaps. The people hauling a heavy dresser aren’t looking at their feet, and the people directing them through the door aren’t thinking about slips and falls. Of course, this is exactly when everyone starts to slip and fall. Do yourself a favor and be extra diligent in drying slippery areas before they can become hazards.

3. Prepare Your New Floors in Advance If you already plan on doing something special with your new floors, move up the date. Instead of waiting until after you’ve moved in to complete the remodeling process, do it before your family actually arrives. Buy those epoxy floor products and apply them; strip up that peeling linoleum and replace it with something better. Have everything ready before move-in day so that you can already reap the benefits when the time comes. These are just a few tips for protecting your floors as you prepare to relocate. It doesn’t matter if you’re moving across town or across the pond; the basic principles are the same. Remain vigilant, utilize the resources at your disposal and watch out for accidents.
